We all remember the best part of Anchorman:

slow motion of critical scene:

And the part with the best quotes:

Well, ever since that fateful day, I knew I needed a trident. :D

So, I went and made one.

I forged the head from rebar:

Forged a "U" shape, and drifted a hole for the central tine:

Unfortunately, the "U" shaped piece had very thin walls to the hole. it broke under slight hand pressure. :( Ironically, a day or two later, I found rebar of the diameter I had wanted to use for that part... :D

Anyway, here it is laid out to show sort of what it would look like:

Anyway, I did get the handle prepped.
Remember the Competition Spear from an outing with my father and brother?

It ended up being the handle. :)
I forged a mild steel ring for the top of it, filled it with epoxy, and bashed it onto the handle with a 4 pound, short handle sledge.
Forgot to take pics at that point...but you'll see it later anyway.

I got a buddy to weld the head together at work with an industrial welder:

I cleaned up the welds with a Dremel and sandpaper, then burned the tang to the handle:

I made grooves on the tang for better hold with the epoxy I was to use:

I epoxied the head to the handle, and took these pics while it dried:

Once it was dry, I had to drill a hole through the steel collar, through the handle and tang, and out the other side, so I could put a nail in there, cut it, and peen the end.

My center drill was dead, so I used my Medford Praetorian to get the hole started. Drilled through 1/8" thick mild steel with a twisting motion...and the point was still fine after! upload_2017-8-24_17-24-37.png

No pics, as the other guy there was welding a hinged door to the back of the forge.

But here are some pics after that part was complete.

I even made a Kydex sheath so I could take it home on the bus...I had put a steel ferrule on the butt end of it the night before, so a rubber cane tip could be put on it.

I did an epoxy and sisal twine wrap at the front and back of it.

Here is a pic:

And, here it is with the knives that help make it:

And in case you were wondering, yes, having your very own trident will make you very, very normal... ;)

Poseidon...Neptune...some sort of sea deity. ;)

Sorry about the continued Canadian status. :D

Yep!

It's been a while, but I think I remember that tridents were utilized by gladiators in the Coliseum to dispatch their rivals. These were used in combination with nets. Neptune could only participate when the arena was flooded for pitched naval battles.
If I wanted to spear a large fish through the ice, I would add some barbs to the tynes. You could roast some really big wienies or fend off some zombies. If you turn it over, you may be able to use it for water dousing, although water is not in short supply in Canada.

Originally I was going to have it slightly barbed, but the diameter of rebar wouldn't do it so well.
The next size up would have allowed for barbs, and for the drifted hole to be proper strength, but you have to work with the materials available sometimes. :)

All in all, I'm happy with the end product.
