Tried my hand at filework

Vic Alpineer. Okay, so it ain't perfect. But I kinda like it. It looks pretty good at a distance. :D

The pic shows me where it needs some touching up.

But....kinda fun. Hate to try it on some HARD steel.

I used a round and triangle file and instructions from the August 2006 "Blade Magazine" article.

The triangle file has to be sanded off on 2 sides. I used a DMT stone for doing that. It took me a bit to figure WHICH side of the file to use and the first couple cuts were wrong. I sorta evened em out but figured out which way to face the filey part of the file after trial and error.

To make it flow better , try some varying grits of sand paper backed on a dowel or flat stick , finishing with maybe 1000-1500.

Not bad for your first try , although you can practice on junk steel instead of your knife. :D
 
I worked it out a little more and smoothed some of the rough spots.
Used mostly a flat file and rounded the jaggedy parts off.

Also shows a bit of the side view of blade.
