1066Vik meet me at the Tandy store. I spent a bit of money and he got me all hooked up. So here is my BK17 sheath. I used fake sinew and dyed it with coffee.

Nice work. I have thought a time or two about getting some leather tools.

Excellent Sheath for your first effort.

It will be interesting to see how polished you become after a few more.

Leather is fun to work with isn't it? Very relaxing.

oh man, I made a BUNCH of leather holsters in front of the CSI channel back when I had cable. :-)

That's a great first sheath, Psy.
If you throw some darker dye and some sheen on it and dye the edges black (burnish 'em with a smooth hand tool or something) you'll be shocked at how finished it looks.
I'm also a stickler for dyeing the inside of the sheath too.

As with the making of anything, from software to knives, 90% of the work is making the thing itself, and getting it to run correctly. The other 90% of the work is finishing details and preparation for final release. (this is a variation of what's called the 90/90 Rule in software development)

Well done Psyop! Looks pretty good. How's the knife you where making coming along. Are you gonna make a sheath for it too? 1066vik is a pretty handy guy to have around. Is there anything he don't know? He's like the swiss army knife of buddies!:D

I think you outta dye the next one with backer spit! :D

Looks good, I have been wanting to get some leather and tools again. A friend and I used to make stuff like wallets and different Tandy kits. I think he made a pair of moccasin boots also. Love the process of working the leather.

I havnt done much more to it. I need to get the bit so I can chamfer the holes before I heat treat it. Yes I will make a leather sheath for it (if I ever get it done)

good job!
wish I had known you needed a chamfer bit -- I'd loan you one.

Do you have a larger diameter drill bit? That's what I use to chamfer the holes in my blades. Just go up a couple sizes, and you get a nicely chamfered hole in seconds.

nice job. i too have thought about trying to do it but don't know what tools i would really need.

i make sheaths for all the knives i want a better sheath for. for tools be imaginative, saddle glue is very strong ive made sheaths with zero stiching and gone on week long camping trips with no glue coming lose in the winter that being said its ugly. but functional. Other wise all the tools you really need is needle waxed thread and leather glue, you can go from there to what you want

Hadnt thought of that! I thought you always forget to chamfer yours ;)

And here I thought you were channeling your inner Yogi Berra

Looks pretty decent, Psyop. Is there something stamped around the backside or is that just some tool marks?

That'll work,I aim to make a similar one for my BK 15.I like to warm the leather and saturate it with SnoSeal. Not only does this water proof the leather and keep it supple with out softening it like most oils it will keep the leather from corroding blades that are not stainless steel.
