Tried some micarta bolsters

I didn't have a piece that was thick enough to cut and do it properly but I went ahead and tried to stack two pieces of white micarta to create some bolsters. It didn't work out as planned in the least. I couldn't hide the seam and as I continued to contour the bolster area the seam ran down into the bolster and created what looks like a crack in the micarta. Of corse it's not, its just the seam from where the two pieces were glued.

This was a blade that I was just going to throw away because of an obvious error I made while chamfering one of the holes in the bolster area. It leaked into the handle. I'm glad I tried it. I learned a lot of next time. Thankfully this was the last of this pattern that I ended up not liking at all.

Any feedback, criticism or suggestions is always welcome.

I think it looks really cool. Can't see the error, then again im no perfectionist. Well done man its really cool

I think it turned out pretty darn good buddy!! Love the pins on the bolster, nice look.

Keep it up, your stuff looks better all the time!

Beautiful knife. Very elegant design and choice of materials. Thanks for posting.

Just tell people that is how it is supposed to be....Looks cool. Maybe stack skinnier layers for an almost damascus look.....Just a thought

I gave it to my father-in-law. He now has two knives I made mistakes on, this one and the one I burnt the wood around the corbie. I understood that I really needed a bandsaw and a thicker piece of micarta to cut the underneath portion and the bolster out of one piece, but without the proper tools I went ahead and tried glueing the two pieces together. It didn't work, but Mike just touched on something that would look pretty cool. I might try stacking a lot of smaller pieces and trying to achieve that damascus look.

At the end of the day, I had some fun and learned something. I lose track now, this is either 7 or 8 . So with so few finished, I get way more information out of making a mistake than I do getting it right. My drive wheel, tracking wheel and contact wheels showed up last week and I picked up a 2HP, 1745 RPM motor yesterday, so hopefully I'll be able to put up some pics of a completed No Weld Grinder soon. Hopefully, I get that one right. :D

Man, I wish I could make "mistakes" as well as you do.

Between this and the Corby thread, I can't wait to see your next screw up... ;)
