I've noticed that Buck in 2012 came out with a line of new American made diamond field sharpeners, one model is called the "Flipstik" and is available in several editions. These look kind of interesting as options for a portable or field sharpener that's more flexible than just a flat stone.
Has anyone tried one, and if so what were the pros/cons about it?
The most interesting one to me is the EdgeTek Ultra Flipstik model, which is available for street prices of about $25 at KC and other places. Here are some interesting details:
* Compact for carrying: 3 oz total weight, only 5" long when closed/retracted
* 3-side diamond grits: 325, 750, and 1200 grits
* Includes an oval contour for sharpening curved blades, and flat surfaces for other blades. Note: the product descriptions I can find don't actually SAY this, but I'm going to assume that the flipstick rod is reversible within the handle, so that one end of it has the rounded contour, and the other end has the 3-sided sharpening surfaces. Or something like that.
I'm looking at one of these, seems like as a field sharpener, it may offer more flexibility than my current DMT diafold 2-sided flat sharpener.
