Hey all, I have just finished my first forged knife! This spring I went to the Georgia Knife makers Guild semiannual Hammer In. While there, my friends at Bloodroot Blades let me have some forge time to make my first knife! The blade is 5160 leaf spring that I hammered down to about 1/4". Sadly I couldnt stay all weekend so I was only able to get the shape and basic profile where I wanted it. Graciously my friends said they would take the knife back to their shop to grind the blade, heat treat and initially sharpen it for me.
Got the blade back not too long after that. While planning on how to do the handle I figured why not try my hand at file work and etching some initials. I used nail polish as the blocker for the pcb etchant and a razor blade to scratch out the initials before etching. I wanted to leave the file work exposed so i used sculpting clay to fill in the voids before epoxying the scales on. It is by no means perfect but I am certainly pleased with how it came out. I have the utmost respect for y'all that have spent hours upon hours getting that fit and finish just right. I still have so much to learn haha. Thoughts, comments and critiques are always welcome. Thanks for looking!
Blade: 5160
Length: Blade: 3" OL: 7'
Handle: Variant of South American Rosewood(not real sure what it is)
5/32' Brass pins
BB is for Bloodroot Blades as they played such a large part in helping me make the knife and the NE are my initials
