Took a few knives [well...parts] to Bodycote on Saturday...picked them up this afternoon

Keith, I'm sorry but I don't care for that. Tell me what it is you like about it. What are the benefits? Maybe if you did it to one knife, but three?

Keith,
How does it look (in person) with the ceramic bead blast finish? I have some coming thru the shop for refurbish and the customers have requested I send them to Bodycoat. I guess I should get off my lazy butt and make one and send it, so I can see for myself.
Thanks.

OH MY GAWD!!! Dude, that's like finger painting over the Mona Lisa!!!
(But they do look cool. ;) )

Guys!! I've gone DLC mad and no one else likes it?!?!? [and for the record there is one more that needs new washers before it gets assembled...so there were 4 total]

benefits: greatly increased corrosion resistance [obie is D2], greatly increased scratch resistance [damn near impossible if you got to talk to Darrell at Blade and try out his test piece. then you'd understand], plus it looks cool [though now I guess that is subjective :p ]

the finish isnt at all like black ti or bt2. it is totally 'clear' you can see every detail straight thru it...almost like a satin black finish.

Kit-
I assume by bead blasted you are referring to the bolsters on Mikes knife. personally I think it looks great - they look exactly the same except just a couple shades darker[if you didnt know they were coated you would just think it was a darker shade than normal]. The M4 I got from you @ Blade this year may be making the next trip I take over there :D Email me if you like, I'm more than happy to answer any more questions....and hell Bodycote is just down the road!!

They call it OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder.)

I suffer from it also, your not alone.

Can we get a close-up of one blade?

If you decide you just can't stand having 3 in black let me know and I'll work something out with you on the Obenauf.

Poor Wiredge is selling his soul to get a couple of Snody folders and you have so many you're painting them black  ;)

One more question, did they miss a spot on the Obenauf blade right below the stud or is that a glare?

Hey, if I'm buying it I think I have a right to ask these questions ;)

This coating and the regular Boron Carbide coating are the only ones I would consider. Still, I like the look of naked steel better.

These knives are just too black for me. I would have preferred some contrast in the handles and bolsters. Once again, personal preference and as long as you like them, that is all that matters.

Keith, you have gone crazy ;) I only have one knife with the coating but I know of a few others that I need to get coated. I think they look great!

I'll try to get a couple pics tonight from a different angle....depending on how the light reflects they dont look as black as they do in this pic.

cpirtle- its just a glare :p

Keith- yeah, its more personal preference than anything. I like the attributes the coating adds, plus I like the look of coated blades.

Michael- get the hybrid-x done!!!!

Keith,

Don't listen to the nay-sayers ! :barf: :p

They look absolutely superb ! :D

If. . .you ever. . .feel the need to cleanse yourself of them. . .please give me a yell !

I'll treat them with the respect that they deserve ! ! ! REALLY ! ! ! :D :D :D

Oh man.........I love it!! I bet those blades are like black mirrors if they had a polished finish to begin with. I have the Reese Weiland GTD coming back so I may just have to send it in for the DLC treatment!

I think their cool, Keith! I have a large Obie #2 framelock in progress. I better get on the horn to Mike and change my order:)

I wonder how a Obie #2 with desert tan scales and a BodyCote blade would look together?

OK guys here it is.....sorry for the size, but I wanted to make sure that everyone sees that this aint some BT2 crap that coats the blade like a syrup and then eventually just scratches off.

Note: The blade was coated without removing the thumbstud....look at the screw slot and you'll see that this coating has virtually zer0 thickness...

and for the record the discoloration you might notice is oil which didnt completely get wiped off. :o

Thanks for the "close-up" pic.

The coating is too cool !

I have a Strider GB that I needs some of that Bodycote DLC treatment.

I'm not a fan of the esthetics of the coating.., but they do a great job.., and the stuff is very tough!
