Hey everyone , I just wanted to ask any and everyone what they use for chopping , camp , food prep and bush work ? Not realy what brand or maker but what blade shape length and style. thanks.

Right now I'm on a Scandinavian wave :D

The big chopping and splitting is covered by an 19'' axe.
The smaller chopping and batonning (wood up to 3-3,5'' in diameter) is coverd by a 8,5'' leuku.
Every other cutting task - like food prep.,whittling, making traps, cleaning fish - is covered by my 4'' puukko.

Left to right: A small hatchet, 4 inch fixed blade with straight spine & plenty of belly, lockback with single blade about 2 3/4 inch long.

Kind regards
Mick

Here's the best trio I've come up with for my use, thus far:

Koster Bushcraft (4" scandi fixed blade), SAK Farmer, CS Trail Hawk (Polished convex edge)

No trios... Quatros!!!

Reeves Nessmuk Hatchet, JK Kephart, JK Pocket Kephart, GEC Tidioute Scout

Forget to read the actual question.

I like:
A smallish hatchet
A 4ish" fixed blade, not really picky on blade style. I've carried from Kephart to Nessmuk to Scandi
A 2-blade stout folder. I like 2-blade because one's for eating, one's for chores.

1.-A B.G. Andrews bushcrafter that I just got and is great! Scandi grind. A Mora 780 before that. 2.-a 12" Ontario machete 3.- SAK Electrician Plus.--

  • Large Hatchet or Small Axe (15-20 inch haft) - Good for general chopping and splitting. Not too large or cumbersom.
  • Medium Fixed Blade (4.5-5.0 inch blade, no more than 3/16 inch thick, drop point) - Good for all my slicing and cutting, light bushcraft, etc.
  • Multi-tool (SAK or Pliers type) - Back-up blade and general tool kit.

  • A small fixed blade with thin stock and a scandi grind. I carry a little EDC fixed blade based on a 'cobbler's knife' blank from Ragweed forge.
  • A mid-sized fixed blade. 5" seems to be ideal for blade length. For a long time (as part of my trio challenge), I carried a Delta 5 fixed blade with a drop point and hollow grind. Recently, I have switched to a JK Anniversary Knife, which has a wider blade and a flat grind.
  • A chopper. Can't go wrong with a BK-9 for an all-around beast of a knife.

and a pocket knife or mutli tool ( stockman, SAk or LM wave) for most outings
but if I'm specifically going out to work my skills.. a nice scandi ground bushcraft knife... Is Great to have... Like this Dp scandi Camp master

(don't mind the crappy spoon LOL)

Small Hatchet, 4 inch fixed, and a multi-tool for me. Thinking of experimenting with a machete though in place of the hatchet.

For me it is usually my Wetterlings LH axe for chopping

My Koster Buschcraft knife for mid size fixed blade.

I usually have some kind of small folder with me... most of the time it's my Vic Farmer. I also like to carry a A.G. Russell Woodswalker. It is a really nice for a food prep knife.

My biggest quest right now is finding a good chopping tool for three season camping when it's not freezing.

I am trying to design a Barong/ golok. I really like the idea of a utility type chopper but have never been a huge fan of the machete for the Northeast where most of my dirt time is spent.

I almost always go with an axe or larger hatchet of some sort, belt knife (typically with a straight spine and a scandi grind) and either a slip-joint posket knife or a SAK with a saw.

and some pics...
