We went for a bit of a trip up into QLD
the scenery is nice

the bush tucker is not bad , this is bush grapes we found ( one of many kinds )

Picture473.jpg

they dont taste like grapes tho .

While we were walking around we literaly walked onto these :

localy they are called lilly pillys , these red ones tasted like lemon sours , the tree looks like :

Picture516.jpg

next to it was a lilly pilly with a brown fruit , it was like chocolate pudding , weird to have such flavours in fruits , but nice :)

this is a lemonaide ant nest :
Picture478.jpg

you put the nest into a billy can of water and squeeze and shake it
you get bit , and your arm gets covered in escaping ants ... but they shoot formic acid , and when you dip a nst full of acid shooting revved up ants into water , you get something like lemonade but without the sugar , its not bad actualy .

the roads get rough , this was a smoother stretch actualy , I could use one hand to take photos :

the kids found an abandonded yabbie net at the camp ( road side stop we just took over for a while ) they mended it

we set it and foraged around some for what there was to be had , this is the result :

all in all , a good time was had by all yeah , I know , no knife pics .... but the cut coconut in the foreground on the last pic , it was cut using an opinel #10 , this is how Iknow green husk will blue your carbon steel blades :)

that was actual near Cook Town , Im back in NSW hunter valley now ... worse luck

when the nut is green , the shell is soft , the flesh is like jelly and we eat it with a spoon .
We carve the nut into cups and bowls or spoons , in a day or two it hardens , and stays a white / fawn color .

nice pics i used my seal 2000 to chop up a coconut once when i was bored . nowadays i would probly use my busse heavyheart . mine was brown though and very hard

Very nice. Never heard of those ants. Neato. Love the crawfish too!

Those are great shots! I'm sure you had alot of fun:thumbup:

Good pics:thumbup: , You won't go hungry up there if you know what your looking for, Thoses yabbies on the table are makeing me hungry:D

Me too :)

Cook Town , actually the surrounding area is a favorite destination for us .
We spend time camped at Mt Molloy , the fishing in Rifle creek is good the camping is free , the yabbies are big , there is coconuts on the edge of town in the park , and mangoes in the scrub surrounding the camp area , free for the taking .

Tully is OK , we camp at Hull Heads , one of the only paid sites we stay at ( kids are totally hooked on the fishing and feeding the monster mudcrab there )

I love the fishing along the coast , around cairns we were walking along in the water flicking garfish out on the sand for bait , and dropping pebbles onto the sting rays stirring them up , its awesome .

The coconuts grow along the beach for free , we head up at Christmas time , when the mangos are ripe . The beach almonds are plentiful , the beach berries and stuff are ripe ... it is paradise as far as free living goes :)

and when it gets boring in the evening there is nothing like a romantic drive with the missus at dusk listening to the cane toads popping under the wheels....

Next time you are in Cairns feel free to send me a note if you would like company gathering bush tucker. I'm new to this part of the world and have a lot to learn.

I see water in that photo!
You guys have water up there?
Man, what I wouldn't do for some water from the sky...

Looks nice though, must get up there again sometime.

Photos from Victoria (Australia) a decade ago. Sorry, no knives in these photos.

The trees are kinda small, they would not present a challenge for a Trailmaster.
