I am going to Bali, Indonesia in a few weeks to soak up some sun and surf. Couple of questions:

1. Does anyone know of any traditional Bali/Indonesian knives that would be cool to buy ?

2. Anyone familiar with the "knife laws" as far as carrying a folder. Will likely stick with a SAK...but would like to carry my benchmade 831

Thanks !

Some knives you might wanna take a looks at : traditional kris, kujang, kerambit.

I think they are the most unsual ones.

kris bali n pedang bali. I believe the kris bali hasn't got any luk or wave. And the hilt has a distinctive look to it.

a side note, pls bring your old shoes to give away to the locals if you're going. some of them can't afford proper shoes - I know many asked me for my beat up trainers when I was there.

lovely place. they need the tourist dollars.

oh, tattoos are cheap there too.

if you decide to carry, don't do so openly. after the Bali Bombings, you don't want unnecessary attention. btw, I packed my CQC7 when I was there, but was quite wary of opening it in public. I used my SAK most of the time.

For the most part you can carry anything with a blade length under 10 cm (4 inches) but I wouldn't flaunt it. I carried a MT SOCOM over there for two years and never had a problem

Will probably just pack the SAK farmer. Been all over no one bats an eye when you pull out a sak. Don't need any legal problems in Indonesia.

Thanks for the responses on the knives to buy while in Bali

Skip the tattoo. Try not to get any open wounds while there. Good tattooz are not cheap, cheap tattooz are not good.
