Trip to the Black Hills of South Dakota

My Pa in law and brother in law live in Rapid City and we try to make it up several times a year to hang out. And everytime I try to get some outdoors time, as it's awesome in that area.

Didn't get to do the overnighter I wanted to get in, but still got (2) day hikes and some messing around in.

Did bust out the PSK, and try my hand at a little fishing, all I used was a 20 ft piece of mono, asmall hook and a split shot. With a flower petal as bait! Caught several mountain suckers in no time flat. (released them all back)

And stopped at a local rock shop that sold obsidian by the pound! .50 a pound for the black and $2 a pound for the mahogany obsidian. I can't wait to get to knapping on it (ok I already started, but I'm not showing until its done!)

In all it was a great trip, and I even got my littlest one on the trail with me for a day! Which is why there aren't many pictures, I was too busy keeping after him!
 
Awesome looking pics. I have never been to the black hills yet but it is on my to do list.
Getting the obsidian was a great score. Look forward to seeing what you make with it.

I've wanted to go up there for some time, this just makes me want to go more. Thanks for sharing the pics :thumbup:

Great photos. Love the Black Hills. I've been there twice. Nature is large, I am small.
 
The Black Hills are bad. Nobody should go there.(Only because I love the Black Hills and want it all to myself):D

Seriously, everyone who has wanted to check it out, should. It's incredible. Awesome scenery and awesome people. South Dakotan's are incredibly nice and generous, I've found.
 
Aaaahhh. The beautiful Black Hills. I do miss the annual summer church camp trips. We'd have a week of hiking, camping, and solitude. My son is old enough now that he appreciates our trips out there.

What lake was that at? I live in the hills but couldn't figure it out. Looks like a great trip though nothing better than a day away to reset all of the breakers.
 
Lake Sheridan. I hiked the Flume Trail. But, some of the pictures were another trail by Piedmont.
 
Ah ok I am familiar with the flume trail but what hike did you do near piedmont. I would love to know so I could try it sometime. Thanks for the info.
 
Great pics,the only parts of the Black Hills I've seen was around Mt.Rushmore & Crazy Horse Monument.
Beautiful country though.
