Dude!
(I mean that)
I was tightening the bowstring on my new bow and happened to pluck it just as I was looking over at the computer screen.
When I did, The bowstring started to wiggle and wave like it was a worm or something.
I cant explain this, you're just going to have to try it.
I just tried it with an extra long rubber band and got a similar effect.
Pluck a taught string in front of your computer string.
Im sure this has an explanation in a physics textybook somewhere, but I really dont want to hear it.
Just try it!

Works with a TV or any other CRT device, too. Oscillating fans can also do pretty interesting things in front of them.

You sure you don't want to know how it works? Don't read the rest, then.

Think in terms of sine waves (yeah, calculus). It has to do with the sample rate of your visual system working at a different rate than the monitor refreshes at, which are each different from the vibration rate of the bow string. The three waves go in and out of phase with each other creating the "trippyness".

Now who ever has said calculus is not useful has been proven to be out of phase with what is trippy, beautiful, interesting, and cool.

Has to do with the refresh rate on your monitor. RGB color guns are sweeping back and forth.... nevermind.

Try making a peace sign with your fingers and wave back and forth in front of it.

Groooooooooovy.

Makes me feel like I was back at the Ed Know & The Kami Explosion concert.

I have an LCD monitor at work... it's not working. :(

yes...has to do with the refresh rate on your CRT monitor. Won't work on my LCD at work either. Different type display. The LCD is not trasmitting light (like glass does), it's emitting light....like a Light-Emitting-Diode does.....

You can get the same effect by waving your hand (fingers splayed) in front of your monitor.

Or cough while watching the screen.....will make it warp.

There are lots of ways to trip yourself out if you really want to.....:p

The best one IMO is to brush your teeth with an electric tooth brush while looking at your computer screen; GROOVY:cool:

Or look at most LED ('E'! not 'C'; & not sure re 'EL')
clock numerals while brushing or otherwise vibrating your head

A back vibrator on the head works even better. :D

Danny--you need to get a boonie hat and stick a bunch of battery- powered vibrators in the fabric loops around the outside. You'll be set.

Steely-- :D

ok, while i go shopping for the components to build my "dildo fedora", Dan, could you tell us the other self-trippyness techniques you so mysteriously referred to.....
