I really like the tritium illumination system, but have been very dissatisfied so far with some watch's performance, namely luminox. Trying to figure out what my other options are. I know the following:

Luminox
Traser
Microtec
Chase Durer
Marathon

Who else and what else?

Tritium may be a scarce quantity on new watches, from what I've read. The Japanese government has made it almost impossible to use the stuff, as it is a regulated radioactive material. With that huge market for upscale tritium watches gone, many manufacturers are moving to a substitute called LumiNova, IIRC, like Rolex and Seiko. LumiNova isn't radioactive like Tritium or radium, and requires light to charge it up.

Don't know if this immediately affects the Traser style encapsulated stuff, though. You might also try www.broadarrow.net, the Military Watch Forum, for further info.

I think the watches with the traser type illumination are limited to:

Microtec
-Luminox
-Traser

Marathon

Stocker & Yale (now defunct company)

See this page for what some of them look like:

Chase-Durer does not have the same type of tritium illumination as traser? If they do please someone email me and set me straight.

Yeah, last time I checked, Wenger and Chase Durer both used a paint-on method using a mix of tritium and phosphorescent paint.
Nowhere near as bright as the tritium tube method.
Like comparing apples to crocodiles.

May I ask what your dissatisfaction is based on? I have three Luminox watches have have been nothing less than perfectly satisfied.

I have had three. All three the wrist pins bent or broke. One the crystal literally fell off the watch. One crystal was scratched seriously from my leather wrapped steering wheel, haven't figured that one out yet. I still have a captain's model, but the crystal has also scratched badly on it. I am not all that hard on watches, I wear other watches and don't have these problems at all. I think the quality started dropping off some time ago. The customer service is beyond bad. Some people put them through hell and they hold up. Mine haven't.
