Trivia Contest

More specifically, this is a JK knives Trivia Contest.
(Thanks to mqqn for the great idea)

The winner will receive a custom-made JK knife (more on that later)

The Rules

1. Anybody can play.

2. One prize (a custom knife from JK) will be awarded.

3. Prize winner must be legally able to own the knife awarded.

4. Answer all the trivia/bonus questions in one post.

5. Chatting is allowed, but please refer to rule # 4.

6. You may edit your answer post (change the answers) if you wish; provided the edit is completed prior to the end of the contest.

7. Contest will end on March 21, 2012.

8. The first 10 questions will involve JK knives.

9. The bonus questions involve me (Tahts-a-dats-ago) only.

10. Non-conus people are invited to play, but be aware of the possibility that you might be asked to contribute to the cost of shipping (if you win the knife).

How the winner will be determined:

1. All ten of the trivia questions must be answered correctly.

2. The person who answers all 10 trivia questions correctly and the most bonus questions correctly, will win.

3. If multiple people answer all 10 trivia questions correctly and all the bonus questions correctly; those names will be placed in a hat and the winner will be drawn out of the hat.

Example:

Question: What is John’s slogan?

Answer: “Your design or mine”

The Prize:

JK PUG

OAL - 4 & ¾ inches
Blade – 2 & 3/8 inches
1/8 inch 01 Steel
2 inch, right-side chisel grind (cutting edge width) with a small secondary bevel.
Handles are ¼ inch thick, tan canvas Micarta; total handle thickness is under 5/8 of an inch thick.
Leather neck/pocket sheath

This knife is new and unused. I believe it is the first one (of this kind) that John has ever made. It is very comfortable in the hand and I believe it would make an excellent EDC knife.

Remember – the bonus questions have to do with me (not John) and aren’t necessarily answered in the links above (all but two are).

1. Which model was my first JK knife?

2. Which football team is my favorite team?

3. What is my favorite color?

4. Counting the PUG, how many first edition JK knives have I purchased?

5. Not counting the PUG, how many JK knives have I purchased (as of today’s date)?

6. Many years ago, a relative of mine proposed an act which officially permitted the use of the metric system in the United States. What was his name?

hi tahts-a-dats-ago. i've been waiting for this contest! i saw the other posts a week or so ago when you were deciding. good stuff. i do have a question though....If we are supposed to post the answers to this thread, won't everyone else then know the answers? should we email the answers to you with a CONTEST subject? thanks.

That`s a very good point!

Great question.

I thought about this for several days, as I was concerned about the same thing. I had thought about awarding the knife to the first person who answered all the trivia questions correctly, but was concerned that the contest would end too quickly and that some would-be participants wouldn't have the opportunity to play.

As a result I decided to include some bonus questions as a means to keep the contest going for awhile (giving more people an opportunity to play). I tried to make the bonus questions a bit difficult, but not impossible. I am hoping the bonus questions will negate the scenario you've mentioned since they aren't necessarily found on this forum.

I think the contest will work with participants posting their answers in this thread since I've included bonus questions that aren't all that easy to answer. I didn't want to go the email route because part of the fun with trivia is seeing everyone's answers.

Long story short: post your answers here (in one post). You can edit your post if you'd like to change your answers. I assume there will be some crafty players who post the wrong answers on purpose, only to edit them just prior to the end of the contest. I think that will be part of the fun.

Edited: I'm removing the requirement to post links for the answers in the Trivia portion. I think that will help make the contest less prone to copying prior entries.

the bonus questions become easier to answer if i can see the answers. hi-ooo! sorry, i couldn't resist. seriously though, the rules are fine....everyone gets a fair shake. and, i agree that it is more fun if we can see the back-and-forth in the forum posts. also, i like your idea of posting incorrect answers. that'll keep us on our toes. and your idea of removing the links to the answers is a good one too. that way, we can't cross reference (easily) the already posted answers. thanks again for putting this together tahts-a-dats-ago. now that i write this, i kinda wish one of the bonus questions was where you got your name from. :D next time!

Good contesr i worried abour answer copying until your reply, well p ok ayyed sir, cheating the cheats as it were. Good idea to remove the link requirement as well.

This is going to be fun I think.

now that i write this, i kinda wish one of the bonus questions was where you got your name from. :D next time!

I had intended to include that as one of the bonus questions, but backed out at the last minute. You are obviously a fan of Westerns.

Maybe a SUPER BONUS tie-breaking question of what the name means????

love westerns. the movies, and favorite author is Louis L'Amour. BUT, i have to admit that i was hoping it was a question because i don't know. but, now i have a lead!

I am fairly certain that I have every title he has ever released. If not, I'm very close to it. His books are among the few that I can read again and again and again.

Wow...i'm impressed. he only has...what?...a million books published? i think i have read them all, but i do not have them all. i agree...i can read them over and over. he def had a gift for story telling (not to mention character development). i am glad to bump into another L'Amour fan. it amazes me how many people have never heard of him. maybe one night, when i am bored, i will start a Louis L'Amour thread and see which are folks' favorites.

John has been more than generous enough in the past; I'll let someone else have the opportunity to win. Maybe everybody is keeping their cards hidden. Here is what I'm pretty sure I know.
1. Hikers Backup(my second guess, kephart was first)
2. Alison, Becky, and Angie(remembered they started with A and B)
3. William M(first guess was udtjim as I know he got one of the first Kephart, which I thought was the first model/knife sold)
4. March 15, 2008(knew it was in the march/april/may)
5. Maggie, Bailey, Bella? and ? (Bella is your avatar and I don't remember ever seeing her, so I think maybe it is your daughters unless she is new)
6. Axes, Buck knives, and Boy Scout items(not sure on boy scout items)
7. Amish country in Indiana(knew that)
8. Kephart?
9. China and ?
10. Not sure what you mean by current customer. I guess I will pick William M as I have no clue.

1. JK Canadian belt Knife
2. NE patriots(complete guess)
3. Pink
4. 4
5. 8
6. This question sucks but I will guess Richard Blumenthal

I want to clear this question up a bit. I don`t mean agewise, I mean who has been my customer the longest, and is still buying from me.

10.Who is my current "oldest" customer?

I think people are waiting to post until there are a few answers. You have to have links to the answers though..... Muhahahahaha!

Hi Derek - I think you have to send Taht's the links in email - I could be wrong.
