Absolutely soooo cool! A timeless puuko!

!500 years In the ice and the wood handle survived better than the steel blade, which seems mostly still there. It would be fantastic to put an edge back on the blade and see how well it cuts.

I find it amazing that some old knives make it. I have 200+ year old fur trade knives that came out better than I thought, with some TLC and museum grade preservation wax. Cool find.

Cool stuff. Thanks for posting it. I particularly like seeing where it was found. To think it's been sitting there all this time, right where the owner left it. How many hunters/outdoorsmen can relate (putting your knife down and forgetting about it).

Yeah, imagine that! Pre viking Scandinavian hunters actually got by without miracle XYZ steel, and no baton capable blade!
Aye, because my ancestors were known for their axes, no batoning necessary.

A general cleanup, a bit of oil on that birch handle, a resharpening of the blade and you would be back in business.

Although, basically the same knife is still being made.

The knife in the OP used better wood though. Glad to know I'm not the only one that finds the wood Mora uses bland and boring.

🤣
