Went to see the new Tron tonight. It was not bad, however the original is better.

the original blew me away, i think i was in jr high.

still fun to watch, but i get a kick out of the Cooper hockey helmets they are all wearing. and i think the fx still stand the test of tiime.

hope to see the sequel in the theater.

is that a recommendation beth?

The CGI was good and reminiscent of the original with it's black and white quality, however with the new Tron, the plot thinned.
Edit: It was not a bad movie, but it was OK at best. I liken it to a Star Trek movie; not bad but not so good. FYI I have a Star Trek key fob.

surely the cgi has improved the look and feel when compared with the original?

Yes the CGI is greatly improved. The movie however, in parts, has the funky color of the original, which I like, but it did not lend itself to the plot. I want to watch it again, but if you are not a geek of sci fi you may not appreciate this movie.

if there ever was something to remember about the original tron,
it would have to be the "glowing" ultraviolet fluorescence.

Indeed in the uniforms, however any exposed skin is ashen gray.

I am a sci fi geek and I bet I won't appreciate this one.

There is SF (speculative fiction),
there is science fiction,
and there is sci fi,
in descending order of seriousness.

And for the truly lost, there is Scifaiku.

I will admit to being a SicFi geek. I have seen very episode and movie of the Star Trek screes, including TAS, but I never once wanted to dress up as any SicFi cast member. I do have a Worf action doll and a Star Trek key fob, and that is it. I feel bad for Tron Guy. But at least he has more than his 15 mins. of fame but nonetheless come on Tron Guy at at least get the suit right.

I failed to mention I saw the new Tron in 2D, not 3D. I might check out the threeD over the weekend.
