I am supposed to vacation next week in Gulf Shores, Alabama. Seems the storm is on a direct path.

Can anyone in the area tell me what to expect?

I wouldn't worry too much about it if I were you. Not unless theres another storm coming next week at least! :)

Basically, ms. arlene here is just "normal" weather here for this time of year. lots of rain, some hard wind, no real danger except maybe to those who aren't yet fully repaired from last hurricane season.

I'm in western palm beach county and just getting some of the outlying rain of the storm right now. No real wind or anything but they are saying that wind speeds are up to 60mph so hopefully people up in the panhandle are getting set for it.

When next week are you coming down? I figure if its anytime after the weekend you won't see more than showers from this storm.

I would strongly recommend you call your hotel and ask them if everything is still a "go" before driving/flying down there. I just spoke with my father in Pensacola, and he indicated that the majority of the rain was falling to the east on this one, and that it was aimed squarely at P'cola, so Gulf Shores is probably getting off easy this time.

Still, call ahead to make sure.

Have a happy trip!

Took your advice. They are recommending that people wait until Sunday to check in. They dont anticipate any real probles but said something about the possibility of my car being full of water if I came in Saturday!? They were nice enough to give us the option of checking out next Sunday instead of Saturday or knocking a day off the price. Looks like we will check in on Sunday.

being on the back side of a tropical storm/hurricane can result in some very nice weather...humidity is low as it all the moisture gets sucked into the storm. we got to experience that in destin last year.
