trouble logging on

Am I the only one having difficulty logging on to the H.I. Forum and Bladeforum lately? I have been logging on for years without problems (other than being asked to re-enter my password every couple of months and having to dig up the latest godawful numerical password that I was assigned!). However this is the first time in about six weeks I've been able to log on, even with correct name and password. When accessing the help line I am informed that the problem probably is that I have AOL, and that AOL is notorious for causing problems with access - the thing is I've had AOL for years and never had a problem before (and I am accessing this with AOL tonight without difficulty). The gist of the help advice is that if one insists on staying with the substandard AOL one probably deserves to be deprived of access to Bladeforum (okay, so that wasn't exactly what was said but it sure came across that way to me!) Am I the only schmuck around here with AOL and having problems? I really miss checking in on the H.I. site and bladeforum, so I am hoping this is only a temporary glitch. Sure miss Yangdu's specials!

I have a similar complaint. Each time I visit I'm forced to log on yet again. This has never happened in the past and it's getting old quickly. As a result, I haven't been visiting the forums much lately. (And yes, I click "remember me" every time I log on). This re-logon crap even happens if I leave the BFC window idle for a few minutes. A real bummer.

Sorry...I've not had any such issues.

You might try a seach in the Support forum...

HC,

How long is your computer idle before it reverts to the login screen. 10 or 20 minutes exactly? If so, this would indicate that you don't have cookies enabled / cookies are blocked.

Yep. Cookies are enabled. This has been going on since BF.com was down. It's never been right since. Makes no difference which browser I use. Also, this doesn't happen with other forums I visit. The problem is on Spark's end, I'm almost sure of it.

I've had no problems using firefox. The only time i have to re-enter my password is when i wipe the computer history/memory/cookies/etc once a month. You should be able to reassign your numeric password with one of your choosing from your User CP. I know I have. I couldn't even tell you what letter/number my assigned one started with;)

Might I suggest taking this to the service and support forum?

The last time I had an issue they got me taken care of PDQ.

(That's Durn Nasty...)

I had a problem a while back where I had to log in all over again every time I clicked a link. It got annoying, but I didn't hear of anyone else having problems, so I figured it was these computers. It hasn't happened in about a month now.

Thanks for the feedback/advice. It seems this is the second day in a row I've been able to log on without difficulty - maybe something got fixed or altered that I'm not aware of. If (when) I have difficulty again I'll try the service and support forum as suggested (assuming I can access them without logging on).

are you using the AOL brower and/or the AOL modified Explorer? if you run it, does it try to think it's AOL branded? don't - horror show.

try installing a copy of firefox, and use that instead whilst logged into your service provider... much nicer imho. that and the fact that explorer is a piece of doo doo and is liable to have your computer p0wned by hackers shortly (security risk)...

otherwise... try to log in to BF, then LOG out manually. then flush cookies, perhaps flush cache too. try logging in again. doesn't do it? well, then to support...
