Trouble sharpening PM2

Hey all. I recently bought the DMT aligner set. I also purchased the extra course and xx fine stones to go with it. I have had no problems getting my ZT 0566 and Manix 2 screaming sharp. My problem is with my Pm2. For some reason I can get the others shaving sharp, but my pm will hardly cut paper without ripping it. This is very frustrating, and I just can not figure out what I am doing wrong.

I have the aligner set at approximately 15dps. I run through all 5 stones, spending more time with the course stones, and using less pressure with the finer stones. I also mark the edge with a sharpie to make sure my angle is ok.

Has anyone run into a similar problem?

My first thought... even though you've marked the edge with a Sharpie... it's possible there could be the tiniest microbevel at the edge at a higher angle... and the stone isn't quite reaching. I'd check either by looking at it under magnification, and/or by raising a burr on both sides, to make sure.

Ditto the above.^

It's likely not fully apexed yet. Examining the edge closely, as with the magnifier suggested, would probably show it. When the edge is fully apexed, as would be confirmed by seeing or feeling the burr along the full length of the edge, it should at least cut paper aggressively, maybe with some very light snagging due to the burr itself. Don't move beyond the coarsest hone until that's done, after which you can start cleaning up the burr; do as much of that as you can with the coarsest hone, greatly decreasing pressure as you go. Once the burr's cleaned up, the snagging should diminish and the paper-cutting should be very smooth & effortless, more so with further refinement on the finer hones in the sequence.

Are you certain you haven't been re-profiling the edge or altering the bevel?
If I have, it's not been by much. I am sharpening to 15dps, which to my understanding is the angle that Spyderco sharpens them from the factory. It looks very close, however I am not the original owner.

I spent a good amount of time this morning on my PM2. I followed your advice to a tee with great success! My PM2 is now able to whittle hair. Thanks guys! I think I may be becoming obsessed with edges too.
