I just bought a lansky delux system to sharpen my vision and have had so trouble. I used to use a DMT diamond benchstone but could never get it too sharp so I went with a lansky. Anyways I put a 25 degree angle on the edge and polished it up with a fine ston but it wont get shaving sharp (and I know this system is capable of shaving sharp results because I did it on another knife.) What is the original grind on the knife? I heard it was something like 17 degrees but im not too sure. What should I do?

Hi Kman,

Thanks for the post. Each of our knives are slightly different. I do know we shoot for the lower 20s. Our recommendation is to follow the existing angle of the grind on your knife.

If you are interested, we do offer factory sharpening. We only ask for return postage ($5.00) to be covered.

Let me know if there is anything else I can do for you.

You can't say that a system is capable of shaving sharp results, as only the material is capable of that :) Are the steels the same on your 2 knives? I suspect not. I have an AUS-8 folder that is a dream to sahrpen compared to my ATS-34 Benchmades.

Make sure you get a complete burr at each step of the way. Lock the blad ein your gizmo and sharpen witht he coarse stone on a setting lower than 25 degrees. Make sure you get a full but along the edge on one side, then flip it over and get a complete burr again. By complete I mean if the tip has a burr but not the area near the handle, you aren't done.

Do this for each stone that you use. Once reaching the smoothest stone you want and you do the burr thing, do the alternating stroke thing. you know, say 5 on one side, 5 on the next, and keep flipping like that. This should improve your results.
