A friend has had 2 Benchmades with Axis locks that were difficult to close. The arc was smooth until the blade was just before the point the Axis bar goes around the tang and pushes the blade closed. One of the knives, a 710, was mine before he bought it, but I never had this trouble. The other is a drop point Griptillian. Both knives were used hard. I was cleaning the Grip today and found some sod inside the blade goove, but it was too far down to contact the blade when closed. The 710, when I had it, didnt have this trouble and my Ares and TSEK havent had any problems either. Is he just using them that hard, or just get 2 that were a little off?

Anything with moving parts is subject to malfunction if too much dirt gets in it. The design is not inherently fragile, but it sounds like he just doesn't keep them clean enough.
