Trouble with getting s30v sharp on DMT aligner

I received my DMT aligner from the extra course to the extra fine stone. I tried to reprofile my PM2 in s30v as it has a rather poor edge on it right now.

When working through the grits, even starting at Extra-course, I couldn't feel a burr. I was doing the sharpie method as well. Although it appeared I was hitting the edge, the edge produced was extremely toothy and overall not very sharp.

I think the issue is that I'm not forming burr. Even on the extra-course diamond with the sharpie method. Can anyone give me advice on how I can get my PM2 shaving sharp with the aligner? I have strops and a sharpmaker to finish the edge, but it seems I'm not even able to establish one with this device.

The first and most important is to completely set the new bevel, this includes making sure both bevel slopes intersect and a burr has formed. It sounds like you didn't complete this step.

Once a burr has been formed use light pressure and alternating strokes. A few passes and most all of the burr should be gone. The edge resulting after burr removal on the XC stone will be vary sharp to the touch and hair shaving edge.

Once the above has been established then use finer stones to refine the overall scratch pattern.

I don't believe I set a completely new bevel. When I have time, I'll probably go back to the EC stone. Thanks
