Troubling Searching

For some reason, when I try to search the forums only a blank screen comes up. Its worked fine in the past. I don't have any trouble on other forums with similar software. I tried changing my privacy and security settings to no avail. Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks.

A blank screen??? We've had problems with the search function before, but I don't recall ever seeing a blank screen.

Tell us what search terms you've gotten that with; maybe we can duplicate the problem.

It does the same thing with any term I try to search, and in any bladeforums forum. I hit the search button and it brings up a blank page. I'm thinking the problem is on my end, but since the search function works for me on every other forum i've checked, I don't know what's going on.

Try a hard reload - hold down the Shift button, and hit the refresh / reload button

Search doesn't work for me either. Been trying for a good while now, this is all I get even when doing a hard refresh:

There seems to have been a slight problem with the BladeForums.com: The Leading Edge of Knife Discussion database.

edit: seems to be working for me now...

Works for me. Sorry guys.

Having the same problem that Onion was, and it's been going on for about two weeks now. No matter what resets/refreshes I do, any search attempt just gets me this:

This happens whether I'm in AOL or in Netscape. Any suggestions? 'Cause this is getting to be pretty annoying......................

Ok. I need the following -

Your OS.
What you are searching for.
Your ISP.
What browser you are using.

Telling me "It doesn't work!" just wastes my time.

Um ... the message doesn't seem to be getting across.... We want to help you. We can't until you give us some information (specifically listed above).

May I offer a suggestion? On my workstation, which runs Windows NT, I have been told to do a "Hard Refresh" by holding down "Control" and clicking on "Refresh" at the same time. I tried your "Shift-Refresh" and it didn't work but the "Control-Refresh" did, at least for clearing through the old cookies that my system was holding and to which it was then defaulting when I would try to log on to, say, BFC.

One other thing, are the Basic members restricted from using the "Search" function? I tried to send a PM yesterday after being a Gold Member since that option was first offered and was told that I was not authorized to do so. After being thoroughly pissed-off for a few minutes of trying different things, I realized that I should check my membership status and found that my Gold status had lapsed. I had sent an email a couple of weeks back asking about this and had not heard, so I had assumed (Yeah, I know) that I was still good to go. I renewed yesterday and I now really am good to go :), but I wonder if these others are authorized to use "Search" at their levels.

Try this:

The next time you do a search, avoid using words like "knife", "sword", and "steel". These words can pull up too many hits which will overload and crash the search engine.

It's not working for me either. Getting a blank page returned to me with the following:

Your OS--> Windows 2000 SP3
What you are searching for--> Anything, microtech for example
Your ISP--> RCN
What browser you are using--> Opera 7.21

It seems to work in IE 6.0, albeit slow (searching microtech).

PS: refresh button hit repeatedly with no effect

Well for some strange reason it's working now, in the Opera browser. All I can think of that I did differently was switch browsers, do the search in IE, and then redo the search again in Opera. Strage, oh well :)

I've had the same problem for weeks.

I'm on Windows98.

Pick a browser - Mozilla 1.5, Opera 6.0, Opera 7.21. They all receive the same error message.

ISP - RoadRunner

Search terms - Anything. For example - Benchmade S30V

Hmmm. And have you tried the Ctrl + F5 trick?

It seems like there's a bunch of proxy servers out there keeping old error messages. Our servers aren't reporting any of these errors.

I tried a hard reload and kept getting the same error message, but I might have figured it out.

I logged in and out several times, each time doing the same search. Any time I'm not logged in I get the error message. Once I log in, the search works every time.
