I like to camp . I don,t like to go camping . I like to shoot . I don,t like to go shooting .

Its mostly the travel and the preparation . I must have some tree in my lineage cause I like to stay one place and dig my roots in deep . Are any of you guys the same ? What travel tricks do you use to make it easier ?
Part of it is the amount of equipment I need to do the things I do . Tomahawks , knives and assorted hatchets require a file and stone or two . Bows and arrows need spare strings , feathers , glue , thread , heads , shafts and assorted other goodies that can boggle the mind at times . I make a list and have it down well enough that I usually don,t refer to it until its check-up time . I suck at packing so that might be the crux of the matter .

A body at rest tends to stay at rest. A body in motion tends to stay in motion.

I get that fear, too, that I'll forget something. If I've been traveling a lot, I don't have it so much, because I've packed several times recently and it's same old same old.

FallingKnife , you have a point . Practice makes perfect and inertia do tend to play a role . I am past the fear of forgetting phase as I make a checklist now . I have gotten to the point that as long as I have the major items I know I,ll be o:kay . As I become more delf reliant I need to depend on things less and on my self more . I still suck at packing .

Kevin, I don't haul arrow making stuff to tourneys, too many bits and pieces to keep track of (and out of the weather). I just rack up a sheaf of two dozen arrows and head out. At the event a dozen go in my quiver, and the spare dozen stay in a medieval style arrow case.

In a pouch on my belt, I keep spare bowstring, string wax, spare points, fletch tite, straight pins, and dental floss. The straight pins are used with the fletch tite to repair any fletches that might get knocked loose. The dental floss works well to secure a serving that's coming loose, or can be built up around the string to create a nocking point.

Sounds like y'all are gearing up for some real fun, best luck and true aim to you.

Thanks Sarge , I am starting to lean towards what you say . I think you hit the nail on the head with the plenty of arrows system . This time out I kinda have a hodge podge of different fletches , spines , lengths and woods . Its a good thing I am adaptable or the difference in ballistics would phase me .
I,m right in the middle of upgrading my arrow making facilities . I also have been experimenting with bamboo arrows which left me a little short of time . (Pics soon)
I think your thumbtack idea for fixing fletching makes a lot of sense . I,m not a big fan of crazy glues as I have to be neat and precise beyond a degree I am capable of under primitive conditions . Its still viable in a temporary situation .

When I used to travel a lot on biz, I kept a bag pre-packed with toiletries: toothbrush, toothpaste, razor, etc. This meant I owned two of each of that stuff. But since it never got unpacked, it never had to get packed. And that also meant I never grabbed the only tube of toothpaste and left my wife without. I could hop on a plane at a moment's notice.

Not traveling much now, I'll need to run around the house several times making sure the stuff that's supposed to be off is off, etc. And I have a feeling of dread while driving away.
