purchase on auction site listed as a Tru Bal Bowie Axe (not correct as the profile does not match), sheath has a #6 which does not look like a Rifleman model, more like an old #8? And should I leave as is or restore?

That's the oddly named "Throwing Dirk" Model 76. Production started in 1976, not sure when it ended. Naming by sheath is hard to do, as they were a pretty generic shape, that fit a few models.

Edit: I'd keep it as is, it's not bad.
