Truck knives / axes / guns

Hey all,
I've got a MC on the way and I'm contemplating making this my truck knife. To that end, I'm looking at ways to semi-hard mount it somewhere in the truck and leave it in there full time. I could either access it quickly, or detach it sheath and all, and go.

So I am curious if there are others who have a dedicated "truck knife", axe or gun that resides in there full time. If so, how do you secure it?

Currently my axe rides behind the back seat, fairly well secured against the back wall of the cab.

I realize this question will shock some even at the idea of it, so please bear in mind, I grew up in Montana at a time when rifles were commonly found (rifle racks in back windows) and we rarely ever locked our vehicles. Shovels and buckets were required kit any time on forest roads. It's just how I grew up and how my brain still works.

What's always in your vehicle, dedicated to that purpose?

G Code makes a good selection of mounts that could be adapted to your purpose and can be easily switched from truck, to belt, to bag, etc.

I couldn’t get the other pics to load but it’s easily found online. Their stuff is very well reviewed.

My truck gun is a simple G23, if I’m in an area where the possibility of the need increases I’ll bring along an appropriate rifle.
I occasionally leave a folder in my truck for the very odd day that I don’t have one in my pocket but since that has happened maybe 5 times in 15 years i don’t usually leave one in there. If I needed a fixed blade it’d be either the HDFK or the MC.

I do leave a Gerber/Fiskars Axe in the box I keep the tie downs, ratchet straps, tow strap, and portable air compressor in.

edit
I was just on the G code site and found that they even have a vehicle mounting bracket. Price is a bit steep but it’s worth a look.

Oh, everything in the F-150 is concealed, I don’t even leave a phone charger exposed. I have a very secure rolling aluminum tonneau that covers the box with my gear in it, the windows are tinted, and the locking center console is cavernous. There are many other discreet hiding places in it as well. With 3 young kids, nothing can be left to chance.

I would start by asking you what is that you drive (truck / SUV), whether it is a daily driver and also if you have small / young kids who could have easy access to your MC.

As for me, although I live in urban southern CA what you are trying to figure out is not eye-brow raising to me, be it a truck gun or large knife / axe, because I would probably do the exact same as you if I lived in most of the other northwestern or southwestern states where the state law does not prohibit any of such truck carries.

Personally, I do own a full size truck but that is not my main daily driver. If I carry an axe or a choppers, they will be in a BoB type of carry, not permanently affixed inside the truck although I have no small / young children or any other rear passengers to be concerned about. Any transported guns (always unloaded) for the purpose of range / practice will be inside locked vault type containers located in the bed protected by a locked camper shell.

Lastly, if you decide to perma-fix your MC inside your truck I am sure that as an engineer you will be aware of how much it may get exposed to the sun and also the interior cabin temperatures during the hot summer days coming up, if sheathed inside its kydex.

I have a truck knife but it's just kinda thrown in there and a cheap one, plus an Ontario machete. I typically carry around a pack and that has my UFK and a RMJ Mini Jenny in that but I don't leave that in the truck. Truck pistol is a FNX 9 that has spent a lot of time in the same pack lately. Also have a 16" AR in there in a hidey hole I made that would be very hard to find for your usual "smash and grab".

My truck has a lot of stuff in it but I don't leave packs and stuff like that exposed, tints on the windows help

I travel heavy and like being prepared. That's just typical gear in there, I bring more crap on road trips

A lot depends on your vehicle as mentioned above. Number of years ago when I gave a car another chance about the only place to put stuff was the truck and is horrible for quick access and hiding. Switching back to a full size truck and the amount of compartments/possibilities......
