Those of you who drive pick-ups, do you use anything like those in-bed tool boxes, or something else? I have a Ranger w/ extended cab and the extra space in the back is rather full of stuff, stuff I wouldn't want to just throw in the bed and leave in the open.

Keep in mind Gollnick's rule: if you wouldn't want to get hit in head with it, put it in the trunk. If you get into an accident, especially a roll-over, all that loose stuff is going to become airborn, possibly going 50-70MPH. That folding shovel you carry for emergencies? Imagine getting hit in the head by that thing going 70MPH! Ditto that 4D Maglight. If you've got a pickup, they you've got to have bed box.

"What? An accident? Me? No! I'm a perfect driver." Yeah, but not everyone else is.

Hi All-

+1 to what Gollnick just said . This is the reason that large fixed-blade knives should never be carried in the cabin. The inside of a car/truck could essentially become a Cuisinart food processor with large blades zipping about unsecured. Toss 'em in a bed box or in a trunk.

I use a Delta plastic box whose interior dimensions are 18"x18"x48". I installed it bolting it to the head board so it can be quickly removed when I need the full bed .

I am thinking about getting a hard tonneau for my truck.

My Tundra has a little bit of underseat storage, so that is where I keep my jumper cables etc.

I drive a full size truck and have a saddle type toolbox in the bed (weathergaurd). After having it for awhile I don't know how I ever lived without it. I used to always have stuff crammed behind the seat, or rolling around on the floor.
Now I have room for all my tools and work stuff as well as all the stuff I need for school, and the cab of my truck is clean :D Keeps everthing dry without it being in the cab, and with it bolted down its pretty secure. Its a big risk/gamble to pry the lid off one of these things not knowing whats inside, they're pretty sturdy.

Delta low profile Diamond plate tool box bolted to the bed in my pickup. Great place for jumper cables, tow chains, logging chains, come along (small hand winch), extra oil and other fluids, small folding shovel, 2 ton hydraulic bottle jack, rope, and blue plastic tarp; I also keep a breaker bar a couple of sockets and wratchet and an adjustable wrench in it with room for more.

under $200 at Schuck's auto parts for the tool box
