My ARE shell is in- put on my F 150 tomorrow. For those that have one.... Should I get the clamps, or have it "permanently" mounted? This is my first that's why I'm asking.
Thanks.

I use an ARE shell that steps up higher than the cab. I've never had it come off, ha, ha. But I have had to retighten the clamps occasionally. And it is difficult to install and remove by myself. I use the shell in the winter, and remove it in the summer for wood hauling. I don't know the method of "permanent" installation. But if I went longer than six months before removal, I would bolt it down.

I've had mine on my tundra since 2000---and i used the clamps. i do on occasion check them to insure they are tight.
I also have a pulley system in the garage, and 2 2x4's with eye hooks that i can slip under the shell ---- lift and drive out from under it---------most of the time i can do it by myself.

They gave me a loaner top to use since mine didn't come in on time for my Yellowstone trip. It was held on by these huge metal clamps. They seemed to always be in the way. I hope they make smaller ones.

That is one of the reasons I don't like clamps. It's not as quick using bolts, but it doesn't take very long. The other reason I like bolts is, if someone really wants to steal it, and it has happened, it will take them a lot longer if it is bolted down.
