The good news is...I was the one to do it. The bad news, I had just locked my keys in my truck, which is what started the whole thing.

I had just gotten off of a business call while sitting in front of another stop I had to make. As I was laughing and hanging up, I locked the truck and jumped out. As the door shut I realized my mistake, but went ahead and went inside.

As I was leaving, I said "I just locked my keys in my truck, so please don't mind the guy breaking into the truck outside:p"

Everyone needs tools, right? I took a cordless drill and bit out of the back, and drilled a rivet out of the pivot for the wing window. Using the handle of a sheathed Izula, I pried the wing window far enough back to reach my hand in and unlock it, then unlocked the door.

Elapsed time? 2 minutes? 2 1/2? I am not sure what the secretary was thinking as I drove away.:p

Anyway, as I put the Izula back in my pocket, all I could think was how important an event it became since a RAT knife was used.:D

Have fun all!

That, sir, is an ingenious application. I thought you had smashed your window to get to your keys, lol.

I droped my keys in someones attic, used my leatherman and the antenna from my truck. Take the antenna off and then used the pliers as a wedge between the top of the door and the frame and pushed the antenna in to the space then pushed the unlock button. I had a spare set of keys in my dash.

When I've forgoten my house keys, i unlock the back screen door through a hole in the mesh, then remove the dog flap from the main door, lie down on my back and put my right arm and head through the hole and unlock the door from the inside.

Let's keep sharing the proven, convenient methods to break into our homes and cars on the internet :D

Two door stops and a coat hanger will get you into most cars in under five minutes. A brick gets you into every car in seconds.

It just depends on what I'm driving. I used to drive a classic car, and everyone said I was nuts for not keeping it locked. I figured it was easier to let them in than to try and track down a new window. That and you could get into it in less than 30 seconds anyway, even if it was locked. Of course, if I found a window smashed even though it was unlocked, I would have been pissed. :D

Now do yourself a favor and get a key cut and put it in your wallet. That way you have to leave your keys and your wallet in the truck. :)

same thing happened to me years ago, went fishing and locked the keys in my truck by mistake, I didn't have a drill or a rat, what I did have was a screwdriver. so I figured the vent window would be cheapest to replace, I smashed it. boy was I wrong, I went to get the glass at the junkyard. the vent glass was $150 a standard door glass was $75! anyway glad it worked out for you and kudos to the izula.

Give me a broken toilet or shattered spark plug and I gots me some Ninja Rox and I'll be in auto safety glass quietly and quickly. :D

Jake had the great car antenna info in the other thread as well. That is definitely something to stow away in your brain.

Keep a spare key in your wallet.

Well yeah, but then how do I get to talk about it in the Rat Cutlery forum?:D

Jeff, any chance of some ESEE key blanks?:p

There is a place that cuts pieces of plastic to make them into a temporary key. They still look and carry like a credit card, but you can bend the key out of the center to use it when you need to.
