I'm new to this forum so forgive me if this has been asked before. I searched the archives and didn't find and answer so I thought I'd ask it here in the General Knife forum.
I'm a VietNam Vet, 68-69. While overthere I was given a knife by my predecessor that I passed on to my replacement when I left. It was a tradition in my unit. It was made by True Balance. 7" blade, full tang, very similar to a Uncle Henry Skinner made by Schrader. It was popular in VietNam at the time. I think I remember it being made in Australia or it could have been Austria. (been a long time ago and my memory isn't what it use to be;) )
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone had any information about this knife, history, etc.; and if there was a way I could get my hands on one?
Thanks

OMEGA5, welcome to Bladeforums! I was stationed at the other end of Asia in '69 ... in Turkey. No knives to speak of, but I did bring home a couple of souvenir battleaxes. :D

I hunted around Google for True Balance Knives, True Balance Viet Nam, and just plain True Balance. No luck at all.

Well, we've got a lot of vets around here. Maybe one of the guys will remember, or have heard of them.

I think the knife type Omega5 is referring to is the Tru Bal line made by the late Harry McEvoy.
I believe I have read that the Tru Bal Bowie-Axe was a popular blade in Vietnam. I am sure you can get much more information on the Knife Throwing forum right here on bladeforums since those knives were primarily designed as throwers.

Thanks guys. Bobby, wish I had a pic but I don't. Haven't even seen one since VietNam. Wish you had pics posted of the ones you have. Mine wasn't a thrower. It had a curved blade like a Unkle Henry Skinner with about half the top of the blade being sharp also. Anything in your collection like that?

If you want to send me a drawing , I may be able to help.
If you have a fax, I can fax you some of the popular models.
Harry used to make all sort of experimental models. His son carried a couple to Nam.

Bobby
