I just picked up a True Flipper knife from Ace Hardware for like $25. I really like the action on it. Haven't got a real chance to use it yet. I was wondering if anyone has any experience with them as I couldn't find much when I did a search?

My wife has a "True" brand knife.
She likes it a lot.

(however - putting things in perspective - this is the same woman that loves Harbor Freight machetes & buys those by the cart full)

I would think it would be from True Value, not Ace...

That would make some sense - but - I just rechecked our local Ace website & there it is.

Interesting... What is the blade steel?
8CR13MOV. It came hair shaving sharp and like I said I really like the action and the slim form factor. I just haven't had much of a chance to use it to see how it holds an edge, I am assuming not to great but sometimes you never know. I carry a Swiss Army Knife and wanted something for heavier duty use.

The True knife also has G10 scales

While 8Cr13Mov isn't great, it's a lot better than I was expecting here. Better-known companies like Buck and Gerber still use 7Cr17 around this price. Kershaw dips even lower into that steel series around that price.

The main factor making 8Cr13Mov feel obsolete is all the Chinese companies using 12C27, 14C28N, 440C, Acuto 440, 9Cr18Mov, and D2 under $30. Meanwhile, non-Chinese companies having their budget knives made in China are getting left behind.

One thing I can say about Chinese steel blades. They can be sharp.
I'm amazed sometimes how sharp they can get some really bad steel.
It won't hold the edge long, but, it can do some serious damage to things for the first couple of cuts.
