hey busse folk-

wondering on the most recent batch of snakeskin for the BATACs. i am thinking of switching my order over to tan/snakeskin, but i was wondering on the actual colors of it. the main pic on the ordering page shows the snakeskin as green/tan/brown, but the handle page shows it more of a black/brown like tigerhide.

which is closer to the actual colors? need to know- trying to match multicam. :D

I asked about variation in snakeskin colors in another thread.

The consesus is that snakekin takes on very different looks depending on the way it is milled. On my CGFBM the milling is not very deep thus producing beautiful dark colors of browns, greens, grays and tans. I've seen quite a few pictures of FBMs with variations of this color scheme ranging from very dark to rather light.

That said, the milling process used on TAC handles appears to go much deeper into the micarta therefore creating what I would call a "flame" pattern, with brighter reds, yellows and greenish-grays. I ordered a BATAC with snakeskin scales hoping to match it to my FBM. After researching it more thoroughly and asking around the forum I feel that there is no way, given the milling process, that the TAC handle will even come close to matching my Fusion handled BM. I changed my order to tan on that BATAC.

There are quite a few pics of SJTACs out there that have snakeskin scales. It looks interesting but isn't my taste.

Depends.

I've got a snake/black SJTAC. Very dull colors. VERY dull. Still looks cool, but surprisingly dull.

My GW - I wish it had more panache. It's got nice grain.

My AD - similar to the SJTAC. Not much pop - esp. for a nice pattern.

1911 Grips - great grain. Look awesome. Bright striping of the yellows.

CGFBM - GREAT coloring. Bright reds and yellows. But others got some odd duller colors.

So what did I do? I ordered TWO BATAC's with tan/snake. I'll keep the nicer of the two and trade off the other one for something else at some point. Maybe I'll slip a container of Clark Bars off to Amy to hand-select my 2 tan/snakes and my LE for nicest handles.

Hmmmm. . . .that's a pretty good idea. Bribery will get me everywhere!
