I found myself a new project this weekend. It's marked True Temper Flintedge. Dimensions are 6 1/4" x 3 3/4" x 26". Only surface rust, no pitting. Poll is very clean. Doesn't even appear to have been re-sharpened. Just a little clean-up and a new handle needed. Not bad for $12. :)

Here she is. Re-hafted, cleaned-up and convexed. I really like the weight and balance of this one. It's a great splitter and a great deal for a total cost of $22 and a couple hours work. :)

Nice job. How long did it take you to re haft the axe? What did you use on the handle to made it fit the head?

That was the most time consuming part (about an hour) of the project. I first used a 1 x 30 belt grinder with a 60 grit belt to get a pretty close fit. I probably installed and removed the head half a dozen times during this process. When the haft was within a half an inch from making it through the eye, and too tight to remove, I switched to a wood chisel for the finish work. Then I hand sanded, 400 grit, the entire handle and treated it with linseed oil. This was only my second re-hafting job, so if anyone has any helpful hints I'm all ears.
