Hello there, I just found a True Temper Woodslasher 35M1K axe with C44 stamped on one side of the blade while contemplating what it would take to sort out my partner’s father’s shop (who just passed unfortunately). I bet he bought it new and arguably never used it. I can’t tell if the blade shows wear from simply how old it is or because it’s been swung a couple times (it even still has the $21.49 price tag still attached). The blade is sharp and there is residue on the edges that look like old school tape.

The little bit I’ve found so far was that True Temper was the first name under which these axes were made/sold and the Woodslasher model was their entry level, maybe?
I have no idea what 35M1K or C44 stand for, any idea?
I read that it’s a very good axe, at least as good as most axes made today. I have no idea if that’s still true.
I also read that people are recommending to just find a used head to use and keep the axe if it's in good shape as a collectible item. Honestly, it’s a tool, and a good tool at that. I probably won’t go out of my way to find a head just to use, I’d rather just use the tool as it was intended, and I’d like to believe that her dad would enjoy that idea (though he never really used it, so who knows).
I also have no idea what something like that would be worth if she wanted to sell it.
Anyhow, I wondered if anyone knew anything about these axes, any stories, info, etc?

Please don't use it! Finding axes like that is a rare occurrence while finding used heads is so easy! I don't know if you are hanging on to it for sentimental reasons or not but I'd be more than willing to trade you a couple good user axes for it. Or perhaps a good axe and a hatchet. It would go into my collection as is and be appreciated, not resold. But either way please don't use it!

After sleeping over it, I might side with your opinion. I honestly get charmed by these old items and there's a form of satisfaction that comes from using something the way it was intended. In my opinion, that's the best form of a respect for something, but that just my opinion AND I am no logger... I have a hatchet for camping and general outdoors (I splurged on a Northmen Northlander Hatchet, though it was still John Neeman Tools when I bought it), a Fiskars X27 splitting axe and Vulcan splitting maul and I've always wanted a larger do-everthing axe. When I found the True Temper, I thought that might be it!! Though I need to keep in mind that it isn't "my" axe, it's my partner's family axe, I just know they wouldn't really care about it.
Anyhow, I digress, I think you might be right. My partner might want to just keep it as is, or it just makes sense for me to somehow get a quality "user" general forest/felling axe and for someone else to truly enjoy this axe if it's as rare to find one in that shape as you mention.
In any case, thank you for your input. I'll definitely keep your offer in mind as we sort through more belongings.

Great NOS find! I agree with Josh, don't use it. The C44 stamp is just a production code.

Thanks for the information! I didn't know if it'd be related to the head weight.
