I went to my local orchard supply hardware store this am .I saw this axe the brand name is true temper. Made in USA. What is your take on this brand ... you axe men:)

I'd seen them at OSH, too. They looked OK, but the bit would need a lot of filing to be an efficient cutter.

One of these days, I'm gonna head up to Bailey's and check out their Council Tool Axes.

At least you have that relatively inexpensive option. Home Depot up this way only features various types and sizes of crude-looking choppers that say "made in India" on them.

Looks like an inexpensive cast steel head. I have an ax and a hatchet. They are great for their intended purpose. They are a general - all purpose ax. If you need to chop roots, split wood, occaisionally fell and limb a small tree this is the ax for you.

thanks guys for the reply.... i'm just going to use it to chop roots and the like. For the price of $40.00 and my money will help my fellow american worker's, i'm buying it tomorrow.

I was overjoyed to discover 'made in USA' Pulaskis for that purpose. They're not outrageously expensive either and were specifically designed to tangle with roots and rocks without incurring serious damage. Also you can sharpen the blade, if so inclined, and make a chopper out of it.
