Well I'm the new guy. I was wondering whether or not I should venture into Fixed Blade territory on my next purchase or stay true to my folder allegiances. I currently own a Made in USA Buck Bantam for EDC and a Gerber Bear Grylls Folding Knife that the serrations have been abused on, but they still keep going, which is why I have a liking for Gerber. My criteria is a 4 inch blade at most(Tennessee knife laws) and under 50$, Anerican made is appreciated but not required. Glad to be here!

Well if you want to try something cheap, but well made, with decent steel, especially for the price try a Mora to see how you like it, if you decide fixed blades aren't for you, you only lost about $15, if you do, you have a good beater/starter knife and saved enough money to get a higher end fixed blade down the road. They're swiss made, not U.S. but most member here love them for the price/quality ratio.

For a smaller EDC type knife, american made, and a little higher end but still around $50 is the ESEE Izula, excellent knife, with lots of possible upgrades like micarta handles, belt clip, etc.

If I was going with a four inch blade, I would stay with the folders. I only use the fixed blade knives if I need a long knife for something (like butchering or cooking).

Becker Bk 11 or 14. If you want really small the BK13 is a great all around blade.
