Wouldn't ya know it? I found this thing on ebay about 6 months ago and paid $100 plus shipping. Now, they're all over ebay for like $60.

I freakin' love this watch though. It's a Pulsar Solar PUA111. I've owned quite a few Pulsar Solars. They run forever, they're tough and keep spectacularly good time when checked against my atomic clock receiver.

It's a pretty beefy watch. It's about 1/2" thick at the face and weighs about a half a pound.

One thing that drives me NUTS about ALL watches is that, when I reach deep into my pocket and pull my hand out, the crown catches on the pocket seam, pulls out, and stops the watch. (I almost missed a plane once because of it.) This one has a screw-down crown so that never happens and makes it water-resistant to 200 meters.

It's not self-lumenescent, but the little glow stuff (?) glows longer than any other I've seen and can be seen pretty well in the slightest amount of ambient light.

That, and if I ever get mugged and the guy wants my watch, I can take it off and beat him to death with it.

Anyone looking for a good watch for not a lot of money should definately check this out.

The WR rating is 200 meters...a good deal more than your stated 200 feet.

That is a nice looking watch. Do you have a photo of it from the side? Also, does it state how long it will run if its stored in a dark place for an extended period?

Thanks! I fixed the top post.

I could take one of you're really interested.

They run a LONG TIME in total darkness. Months and months. They go into this low-power mode when they're almost depleated, where they'll tick every two seconds instead of one (twice the distance so it still keeps time).

I'd have to dig out the manual, but if you charged it all the way by, say, wearing it outside on a sunny day for a while and then stuck it in a drawer, I bet it would run for 6 months.

Real-world experience with them from someone who mostly works in an office: I used to have about 6 of them. I'd keep them in a glass-top box in a room that never got any directly sunlight. I'd rotate wearing them, so they'd go for maybe 4 months with no use. Occasionally, I'd put one on and it'd be doing the 2-second tick thing. I'd hold it near a lamp for about 30 seconds and it'd start runnning regular. I've never actually seen one stop.

Here's a sort of side picture of my PUA-111:

Thanks for the pic. Since I have a ton of G-Shocks here I like to make sure any watch I consider is not one of the real thin ones...that Pulsar looks beefy enough.

Trust me...The Pulsar PUA-series is a large, thick, heavy watch...And they look GREAT, as well as being EXCELLENT time-keepers. The 2 that I have (both bracelet models...PUA-111 & PUA-109) feel EXCELLENT, and solid on the wrist. And, in-case you didn't know this, Pulsar is a Seiko company.

...Pulsar...

Here's some info from an ebay link, on the power system:

This high-performance dive watch features Solar 4000 Technology, an eco-friendly power system that charges from any light source while you wear it and offers uninterrupted power for 180 days when fully charged, so you'll never need to change a battery. A low charge indicator kicks in when less than 72 hours worth of charge remains, and a quick-start feature re-starts the motion with just 2-3 seconds of light exposure. The watch also has built-in technology to prevent overcharging.
