I am new here to the Becker Knife and Tool section of the forum - so this might have already been asked, so if I am being redundant I apologize – while searching the net for Becker knives I got confused about BK and T and Ka Bar and Johnson Adventure blades JAB.

a few months ago I bought a JAB bacon maker thinking it was a Becker product because when I would do a web search for Becker Knife and Tool; I kept coming up with all four companies – BKT – KaBar – Camillus – and JAB

So I am a little confused; I understand Camillus isn’t around anymore but the other three keep getting lumped together by the search engines.

Is there a link or place where I can read up on all this to find out what is what and who is where?

Thank you –
Eric

You should check out the database here.

KaBar produces Becker and Johnson blades but they are not designed by them.

Ka-Bar is a knife manufacturer, Ethan Becker is a knife designer, in this context.
Like the Dozier line, Ka-Bar manufactures the knives.
Ontario is another manufacturer, and like Ethan, Justin Gingrich is the designer of the Ranger/RD lineup. Justin also makes his own knives, and has a website.
Rowen manufactures the ESEE line of knives.

It can all be very confusing. My wife still thinks Ethan Becker is Eddie Bauer.

He's not...is he?

I thought I understood the relationship until Ethan started that thread about the Mark1. Now I am unsure myself.

ok - so that helps - this area is for the knives marked BK and T designed by Mr. Becker - the other KaBar stuff goes elsewhere - and KaBar is the Maker while the other names are the designers -
-
like Ford makes cars but Shelby designed the Cobra and Mustang? which would mean that the Becker knives are the GT 500s of the KaBar company?

I think i got it

Ethan is generating buzz about a knife w/o his name on it. It strikes me as odd, thats all.

We talk Becker knives and Kabar since Kabar makes the beckers. Ethen was talking about new stuff from Kabar that he really likes. Got my eye on a Leather handled one after they start hitting the shelves. :)

I think Ethan is a knife enthusiast - and this one is a historically interesting knife, made by Ka-Bar and not a direct competitor for any current BKT models. So why not show some pics of something he thinks is cool...

No doubt it's a cool knife, and there is no competing blade from becker in a comparable size.I do appreciate the awareness that his thread has brought, as I doubt I would have seen the mark1 otherwise.

Actually I am not.....Merely a figment of my imagination......

I like to generate buzz about stuff I like as well as the stuff that has my name on it.......

I was gonna post about the newish Junglas from ESSE when the feces hit the wall the other day.....It will wait awile when I have more opportunity to whack some more with it.....I got in the biz because I are a knife nut and really have not spent much time looking for a cure.......

I especilly like it when my friends at Ka-Bar do a project that I really like and the little "Quartermaster" knife is one very sweet little blade....I now have a user to go with the original in my collection......

All Best....

I've had a long, in-depth, conversations on knives with this man, one in particular with lots of physical examples for the discussion. On this he is not kidding. I thought I had it bad, he made me feel much better about my affliction :)

The Mark I is an awesome knife. After carrying one for a while some years ago I am seriously surprised that the issue pilots knife became a favorite issue knife for the early high-speed operators in Vietnam rather than the Mark I. I am thinking it had to have something to do with availability, but not sure when they went out of production.

You'd be surprised at how many custom knife makers buy other folks knives.
