Trying a different background material...

I was out on our pool deck over the weekend, and came across some material that my wife left draping over one of the chairs. It looked good, so I gave it a whirl. I apologize for the non-Busse content, but given that this is my favorite area of BladeForums, maybe it'll slide.

For those who are wondering, the knife is a Randall Made Knives "Tom Clnton Special," which is Tom Clinton's dealer special. It is a wide dagger with seven-inch blade. The forward-curved nickel silver hilt and stainless blade material are standard. The handle is of the Commando type made of Black Micarta, and has a Duralumin butt cap.

Here's another TCS (Nickel Silver smooth collar, Maroon Micarta handle, and Duralumin smooth coolie cap) with this year's Euro-mounted antelope as a prop:

nice blade and pics lunde, the grils at busse have the smoothy durabutts too. you should come to blade east with your camera and check it out next year

ps: butt don't touch... they all have body guards...

.

Who cares about the blade when there's a full bottle of 12 YO Macallan there to drink.

oh, nices pics.

Nice going... all we need is that HOG there sucking up knives too :grumpy:

Ken,

About the background, I think it is a bit distracting.

Especially when it seems to not lay flat and makes the image look distorted. Like my photos.

Scotch makes me hurl but that Randall makes up for all of that!

Nice knife! The background looks like that rubbery shelf liner stuff right? Good stuff, I use it for all sorts of tasks like keeping my cutting board and furniture from sliding around.

It looks decent but in the long run I think it could present some problems. For one, constantly trying to align the boxes parallel in the frame could become troublesome. Also, the boxes will illustrate problems maintaining depth of field when spanning a large blade. It's always good to experiment though!

Yep, it's all about experimentation. Maybe I just wanted to spend some time with my D300. Here are couple more, but I am not happy with the composition:

This one (Denmark Special with fairly stunning stag handle) turned out better, I think:

I love that stuff, I use it for everything.

That background material looks pretty good too!!!

Thanks for the nice pics, always like seeing them.

Very nice pics as usual along with the knives.

I like the material but not the color. I think the white brightens the pics a little to much. If the material was a darker shade the blades would be more defined.

Ken, nice photos as usual. I am always looking for new backgrounds to use. My camera work is not that swift, I just use a Canon A95 Powershot, on AUTO. I found these dinner place mats at Target, inexpensive, and I'm trying different colors. Shown is a Randall version of the Sasquatch, with 8" blade, Maple handle, Dealer Special.

Hey... I thought this was the BUSSE forum!!! ;):D

I prefer natural backgrounds. A stump in particular is a rarely used background for photos on this forum ;), so in an attempt to be different, nay... rebellious... I use it. :D
Model 15 CDT... one of my favorite users... along with another favorite user... kimber custom classic...
