I watched a video by ex special forces/survival guru
Dave Canterbury last week, he made a tinder nest using Duct tape as a source of survival tinder for winter conditions, figured I'd try it out.
For once the rain had stopped and it had become a perfect fall morning !
The dogs explored amongst all the fallen leaves.
I love days like this !
Anyway the trick to using Duct tape as tinder ( if lighting with a ferro-rod )is to make the strips as fine as possible, I used my knife to start the strips.
My Duct tape nest.
Not sure just how many strikes it took me to light it but it was far more than I'd wanted it to. I'm thinking maybe this would work better with some shredded cotton balls on the back before you wrap it round your bottle or knife sheath etc. That way when you pull it off and shred it up the cotton strands will take a light quickly and ignite the Duct tape.....just a thought.
What can you buy with $15 nowdays ? Well I managed to get myself this new army jacket at the weekend. Brand new for the price of a burger and a beer, I figured it was too good a deal to pass up.
