Trying something different (lanyard content)

Lately, I have been on some jobsites in some fairly harsh and unforgiving conditions and often they are very secure (meaning if I drop something, it's basically gone, because I cannot go back and look for it).

I generally am a fan of lanyards but have never tried a teather before. Tonight I tied one up and will put it in action (particularly next week as this upcoming job is a doozy). Hopefully it won't drive me nuts. So far around the house and shop it works pretty well.

Any thoughts?

Better safe than sorry. .i am scared to death of losing one of my CRKs and by the look of your tether, i assume you feel the same:) btw, that is an AWESOME combo damascus and micarta!

I like it. And hey, if you ever needed to hog-tie a few dozen people, you've got enough paracord on your person.

Thanks, there is a whole lot of special going on there (yes, CRK did a great job, but there is a fair amount of circumstance and story that makes this one extra special to me).

True fans of CRK will be happy to know that this knife gets carrier daily, and sees use in duties that some might question. I bought it to use, and it never lets me down and often impresses be by defying my expectations (nothing magical, just a lot more durable that some might guess).

And, yeah, this knife actually got lost pretty deep once, that is when I started lanyard-ing.

I really like that tether, it looks great. One thing I like about them is that if I'm taking the knife in and out of my pocket a lot I can just drop it instead for speed.

Very nice, unit. That knife is gorgeous as well. I can see why you don't want to lose it.

I can see how that set up will give you peace of mind and given the environment you'll be in, hopefully you won't notice it at all.

I will be copying your idea for when I have to go under a house for work. That's a sure fired way for it not to get lost. I don't think I can do as elaborate as yours, but a length of leather would work.
Thanks for sharing that idea.

Yea, he did have one untill his dog chewed it. :D

I'll have to make more of those some time....

Yes, I was about to offer that info and you beat me to it. I tried last night to put an end back on it and nothing worked!

In related news, I honed the edge last night too. Man, every time I do that, it's like getting a new knife all over again! It is really nice to have that bump in performance once in a while. It never gets dull, but when it gets really sharp...it's fun!

It seems pretty simple to me. Leather would certainly do the trick, though. The only thing tricky about mine is where the ends of the inner strands are hidden/terminated, and even that is not too complex (it's one continuous strand that is fused in the middle, under the red overwrap, after the diamond knots are tied at the ends). My 6th grade son helped me make it (he started selling paracord leashes, collars, and bracelets several years ago).

I'll drop you a line in with pics of how to fix it...is it still long enough ? :)

Yeah, it only lost about an inch (and that was from my efforts to fix it). He just crewed the end, and shrink wrap off.
