Trying something new: The Sideclip

I've decided to try a new EDC to reduce the amount of weight in my pockets. I've reasoned that I can carry my Supertool in my bag, and on my person I will try the Sideclip.

Overall I'm amazed how thin it really is. I miss the longer handles on the ST obviously but this is by far the most compact way I've found to carry a full size pair of pliers. My only wish is that it could have a serrated sheepsfoot blade instead of an extra flathead screwdriver but it's still good how it is.

I'm wondering if I keep my larger multi-tools in my bag and carry a smaller Leatherman tool and a smaller SAK if I can have the best of all worlds... we shall see.

As an aside, I'm curious if anyone has ever tried taking off one of the screws and removing the blade. What would remain would be a folding pair of pliers and a bunch of non-cutting tools. Such a politically correct thing could have its uses. Air travel anybody? The only problem I can see is if you were to do that, the other tools on that side would be unusuable as it seems the blade itself is necessary to hold the whole thing in position. I wonder if you could grind it off or even better grind it down into something else neatly with a Dremel tool.

Hey DMW I agree its been one of Leatherman's sleeper tools and sadly will be discontinued at the end of the year. :grumpy
The other tool I still use and couldn't figure out why it wasn't more popular is the Flair  .....I keep that in my kitchen drawer and it sees alot of use......

Kap

:D i just got a sideclip last week, i've carried it everyday (unlike a lot of multi's), great bottle opener, i used mine extensively today to work on my car and install my plates, works great, the sharp edged tools really hold on and with the grip extended you have a full-size screwdriver. i think with a medium sized sak it will be perfect for EDC, anxiously waiting for my yeoman to arrive :( , that clip makes a big difference.

The new Kick appears to have the same set of tools as the Sideclip, minus one flat screwdriver, and also has an optional pocket clip. The Kick is 4" and 5.2 ounces; the Sideclip is 4" and 5 ounces. I don't know how they compare in thickness.

The classic line had gotten kind of fractured, and I think it makes sense to condense it a bit.

I got mone 6-8 months ago. It's probably the only thing that doesn't get rotated. It's pretty much there 7 days per week. As a matter of fact, my Sideclip and SAK climber saved the day yesterday(Sat). And it made Mrs. Fruitbat VERY happy!!! But that a story for another time. :D

I usually carry a sideclip on weekends and an original Leatherman on weekdays. They are good and handy tools. I feel they dig up on the hands a bit more than others when you press hard, but they make up for that in weight and ease of carry.

You really think they'd let you on a plane with a pair of needlenose pliers?

I think it would be nice if you could remove the knife and add scissors. I'd be a happy camper!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D
