So I'm planning on taking part in the "Experiment", but I need something a bit smaller than my Case large trapper. I like it, but it's a bit much to carry in my pocket every day. So I've pretty much narrowed it down to the Amber Bone Texas Jack, and the Mini Trapper patter. I'm planning on ordering tomorrow, so I figured I'd get some input from you guys first.

Case makes belt sheaths specifically for their trappers. Holds their large trappers, very good leather and a lot cheaper than buying another knife. Looks like this:

I'm guessing you mean the 92 and not the 32 pattern. 92 would be my choice if I had to carry just one for a year. It's much larger than a peanut though.

I like the 32 pattern also, but the 4" patterns are my standbys. 92 and 47.

Queen Mini-Trapper!

I edc one and it's great. I don't really have enough knives to justify getting into "the experiment," but if I did I would never feel inadequately prepared with the Queen. Sterling quality as well.

They're both nice knives. I'm looking at the Mini Trapper pattern right now. I have one, but am looking at getting one of the Wharncliff ones, #6207W. The Mini gives you enough handle to hold onto, without being too large for the office.

For me, it's between that and a Queen 2-Blade Congress. About the same size. One spring width vs. two (I believe).

I'll probably end up buying both.

I have a Case yellow handle mini trapper in my pocket right this moment. Since you said you like this pattern I will keep my comment to that pattern and not any others. The mini trapper is a great size pocket knife. I don't even know its there. Its comfortable to the hand and a lot of knife for its size. Since you like your large trapper, I think you would be happy with the mini trapper in your pocket for the next year.

I owned this very same knife, and yes, it absolutely is a great, pocket-friendly knife. Two hard work blades, and comfortable in the hand too. ince you know how good a trapper can be, why not stick with it?

Since you are already using a trapper and lke it, why not just downsize for the experiment. When in doubt, stay with the pattern/tool you are already familiar with.

Or just get that sheath for the trapper you are carrying and use that. It's worked for you okay so far, right?

I am a believer in staying with tried and true stuff that has worked for you on a long term basis. As much as I like the peanuts, and my dad used one, I've been a stockman user most of my life so I went with a stockman. Its a little smaller than the 301 I carried for 25 years strait, but at 3 1/4 inches its not that much smaller, so I'm on familiar ground.

If you're used to a trapper, stay with a trapper.:)

Size is up to you.

This, to me, would be the essence of the experiment. The goal in not to see if you can go out and buy a knife you can live with for a year. I think using a knife you already have would be more telling.

Then again, I'm not participating, so ...

Well, that was one of my original goals of the experiment. If I only had one knife, and couldn't buy another one, could I get by with what I had?

I think I'm going to just get a sheath for the trapper. I carried it around today, and it didn't really bother me much. I might just start carrying it in my back pocket next to my wallet. That way it'll stay vertical, rather than lay at the bottom of my pocket. Besides, I'm ultimately trying to thin out my collection in the long run, so getting another knife would go against that concept.

I think back pocket carrying is underrated. Especially a bigger knife is fit for that. I carry my Schrade USA 125OT in my back pocket all the time, and since its big enough (blade somewhere around 4.5") it stays in upright position.
Id say, just give it a shot and carry it in you back pocket for a while.

ps: I think I could live with one of my stockmans for a year, but I like all of my knives way too much to try it. I cant stop handling different knives all day. :D

I like to carry my Wharncliffe Copperlock in my back pocket, but it is really thin. I could probably carry a Barehead Trapper in the same place, but anything much thicker starts to bug my hip after a while. It is a most convenient location for the knife, though.
