Im in the market for a new watch..I really like the looks of the suunto vectors but to be honest Ive read some conflicting reviews on them being waterproof:confused: I have read were several reviewers posted that just swimming with one filled it with water..Can anyone comment on this?
Then knowing my habit of being so rough on watches has had me looking at the 6900B-1 solar atomic G shock..To be honest its about the only G shock that I can stand to look at :D To me most G shocks are ugly as sin but this black one with the orange accents looks pretty good..of course ive read nothing but good about the G shocks ability to take water and abuse..
Any thoughts and comments would be apprecaited..:)

I love my G-shock. I used to switch watches like I switch EDC knives (constantly), but since getting the G-shock I haven't thought about another watch. I love the atomic function that synchronizes the watch down to the second everyday, and the barometer (I have a "Riseman" G-shock). It never requires a battery replacement, and has stood up to plenty of use and abuse. No complaints.

I had given up on wearing a watch after killing so many of them. (including an Omega of my fathers that was too nice for a High school student.) Cracked three crystals on the Omega before giving up on that one. Drowned alot of others.

I found my first G-shock at the bottom of a local lake when they lowered the water level to work on the dam years ago. We were messing around and I found it in the mud near a landlocked dock. I was surprised that it was still running. Hosed it off and used it for awhile. Couldn't kill it. It was an older model with the little yellow light on one side, really hard to read in the dark. I saw a newer model that had the indiglo light and bought it. I wear one 24-7 except for showering.

I get about two years use before I need a new band. Last one I had the battery changed and they didn't replace the gasket correctly, it drowned next time I went to the beach. (cheap mall jewlery store.) My latest is one of the atomic solar models and I love it. (About $60 at a local Kohl's on sale with 20% off coupon.) I've used a G-shock as a diving watch, worked great. I work at a trucking company, my watch gets banged around regularly. Our apartment complex has a pool that I use almost daily in season. We visit the beach several times a year. One of mine got so worn the indentions on the case where it said g-shock were gone. It was still working perfectly, I just wanted a newer prettier one.

I wear a Suunto *takes watch off to look at model on back* t3d every day.

This is my second one... because my first one actually had a problem with leaking and the watch was all messed up. However, I used Suunto's warranty, and they send me an entirely new watch. They even picked my shipping up for me.

My opinion on Suunto is  and I also use a Suunto diving computer for SCUBA diving.

Another vote for the atomic G-Shock. When I worked as a mechanic I wore it every day and it took a lot of abuse but it still runs like a champ. One thing to keep in mind - the solar powered battery will run down unless you give it enough light. When I don't wear it I leave it on a window sill to maintain the charge.

I'm a believer in function over form. G-shock for me. And if you're really worried about water resistance, I think I read on a G shock forum where people had filled the watch with silicone oil (?) and it was supposed to be water resistant to absolutely ridiculous pressures.
Just did a quick search, someone pressurised a modified watch to 1000 metres pressure. I don't even like being in water deeper than my neck:eek:

I have the gulfman atomic / solar powered, it cops a beating and just keeps on going. You cannot go wrong and there are good deals to be had on the net if you look around.

I've had a Suunto Vector. I wasn't crazy about it as the ABC functions weren't the most precise. The compass was 30 degrees off! I also found the user interface counterintuitive...it could be because I've always been a Casio man. I got the Pathfinder after that and never looked back.

The G-Shocks are great watches. I've had several myself. The atomic and solar functions are proven. I've used my solar Pathfinder all winter, where its mostly covered by my long sleeve and the sun sets at 4-5 pm, yet it remained at "High" all the time. Never had the need to take it off and recharge it.

Casio is the way to go

I've had an atomic/solar G-shock for years now. I liked it so much I gave my adult son one for Christmas that year. He is a construction manager and treats his pretty rough, but loves it. Neither of us have had any problems in over 5 years.

Im sorry, that one dosnt..i listed the model number wrong..Its actually the GW 6900b-1

No sweat; I just wanted to help making sure you wouldn't buy a "great deal" only to find out it doesn't have the features you want...it happened to me :)

I have the Vector, as well as several G shocks. I like the vector for the "cool" factor, and so far has been a decent watch. However, the G shock in my humble opinion is the best watch for the money hands down. I have an old G shock that washed up on the beach in 1991, still running. I put a new band on it, and wore it until the mid 90's, when the housing started crumbling. I sent it back to Casio and had a new housing put on it, and it's still going strong today. I have used it for SCUBA diving every summer since I found it, and it has never let me down. My 2 cents...

I have the Suunto Vector and I really like it. I've had it about a year now and I have zero complaints. I work in construction so it gets worked pretty hard. I've had no issues with water from swimming or whatever. I think most peoples that leak is after they change the battery and they don't get a good seal when the put the cover back on.

2 things killed it for me with the vector... poor battery life & a face thats easily scratched. if you want a suunto i would go with some other their higher end offerings.

Wore a Suunto XLander for nearly 10 years until I gifted it to a friend. I switched over to a Suunto black-mil Core. The Vector - I got one cheap and it just lived on my backpack strap. The vector have cheap plastic lens. The higher end Suuntos make the Casio I've owned seem like toys.

'nother G-shock vote here. I just got my third in 8 years and sold the first for near what I had in it, still running strong, just time to shuffle.

New one is a AWG-M100B, and I am loving it.

G shock. I had a suunto x9mi that the bezel broke on a few months after i got it. I sent it in when i got around to it like 6 months later which was out of warrenty by a month, they sent it back with the bezel fixed, but telling me the circuit board had water damage and was shorted out. Thats just about impossible since it sat in my dry apartment in LA for that time. It was also missing a button. I dunno what they did to it when I sent it in, the button was there and it had been working, so... They did offer me the latest model for like 50% off msrp, but the whole thing was so sketchball I just didnt want to give any more money to em. My G-shock has been going strong for years though!
