Trying to decide between knife blades

I'm looking to get two knives, a Cold Steel Recon Scout and a Cold Steel Trail Master. Both are for outdoor (camping type) use. I'm not sure if I want to get the San Mai III versions or the SK-5 High Carbon. The San Mai III is twice as much, but it is a metal sandwich so I get that. My questions though, is it worth the extra cost? I've seen the Nutnfancy video reviews, and he seems to like the San Mai III, but doesn't seem to like taking the knife out in the woods cuz of the high price tag, makes sense. I've also read some reviews that say the metal is harder to sharpen and can break or chip easily. I get the feeling that San Mai III blades are more for "killing bad guys" than practical use. Anyone have any experience with San Mai III, is it worth the extra bucks?

IMO no its not, teh SK5 will do you quite well in the woods, especially if you have to field sharpen and dont want to take a full kit with you

as to the San Mai stuff, its alright but not for that price

just my .02

That's a good point, I didn't even think of the extra baggage!

If you want a good user, get the high carbon(price friendlier)model. If you want a good safe Queen, get the San Mai model.Just my opinion. If you really dig on the stainless one,by all means, get it.

To me the higher price is only worth it if it will cut better, last longer and generally take more abuse. I could really care less about the shine. Real world use will take that off anyway. If I were rich I'd love to get both and beat the heck out of them to see which one breaks first, but I'm not... With the huge price difference I was really hoping someone would say something to indicate the extra money is worth it, but all I've seen thus far on line and now here is that you pay more to keep a shiny knife in a drawer so it will stay pretty.

I'll wait to see if anyone else has anything different to say, but I think I'm sold on the less expensive blades at this point. A good knife is worth the extra money, but if the knife isn't worth the price, then it isn't a good knife - at least not for what I'm looking for. Sorry Cold Steel :)
