Trying to Decide Which GEC to Order...

I am looking at a Saddle Trapper, and the Huckleberry Boy's Knife.

I like the single blade version of the Boy's Knife, just based on looks.

Decisions, decisions.

I've got two of the Huckleberrys (both single blade) and zero of the saddle trapper, so it's not like I can make a fair comparison, but I am pleased as punch with the #15's. Something about their simplicity makes them feel "Made to work" in a way I appreciate. Their slender profile makes them very pocket friendly. Spring tension is just about perfect (not that it matters with that great big long pull to give you all the leverage in the world.) Fit and finish are beyond reproach.

Really it's a nice little Jack. Good blade combo. I like the barehead versions..... the jigging on all is pretty sweet. Like the smooth Ivory Bone too.

Woodrow, you swayed me.

I just pulled the trigger on a Eureka in smooth ivory bone.

I keep watching the for sale forum here for Huckleberry, but no luck so far.

I saw a picture of the Saddle Trapper with the clip blade open, and it looked like that wharncliffe blade stuck out in such a way that it might not be too comfortable to hold and use over long periods of time.

Single blade 15 wins just about every contest there is for me. But the Eureka jack is a nice compromise between the two knives you mentioned. Mine is the bare end version and it is surprisingly light and comfortable to carry.

For just a tad more than the Saddle Trapper would have cost me, I instead ordered a Eureka Jack in white ivory bone, and a single blade 15 in rust red jigged bone.

I didn't get exactly the configuration of the Boy's Knife I would have preferred, but maybe it will grow on me.

I love the Eureka for a good mid-size knife. The linerlock 85 and wharncliffe whittler are two sleepers in my opinion. But right now the spotlight is on the #15; but your requirements would need to be on the smaller side. The #15 just rides in the pocket better than a 4"+ knife.

I carry some bigger sized folders.

I have a Northfield Big Jack, a Case Back Pocket Trapper, a single blade and a two blade Scout, and various other big slipjoints.

I usually am drawn to the big ones. I live out in the boonies, I hunt, I work with livestock, I wear Wranglers most days. I can and do carry bigger knives.

But I decided to pick up a couple of more medium sized knives this time.

Looking forward to getting a package in the mail from Sulphur soon. :)

Single blade 15 gets my vote. Several covers to choose from, along with blade shapes. Great all around pocket knife.

Partial to the antique yellow bone with clip blade myself
