Trying to figure out what kind of blade this is.

I have no idea where this came from. Maybe I saw it in a movie... drawing... image online... anime... video game... book... whatever. No clue.

But last night I was having many random dreams and there were 2 or 3 where I was pretty much just seeing some people fighting in a very dramatic way you'd only see in a movie. But in these dreams I kept seeing someone wielding a blade I'm sure I've seen somewhere but can't think of where. So I'm going nuts tonight trying to find out what kind of blade it is.

I'm thinking it was some japanese thing which is why I'm thinking anime, even though I haven't watched any anime or anything for a while now.


But the blade I kept seeing... or at least that I can vaguely remember at this point... Was some kind of weapon where it was a long long handle and the blade was only a little longer. Like the handle is big enough easily for 2 hands and to still have some room, and the actual blade is maybe 2-3 inches longer.

Any clue what this weird out of nowhere dream sword is? Or have I just somehow made it up in my head and in my dreams convinced myself I've seen it somewhere before?


Can't even seem to google much help for it so I thought I'd try these forums since I remembered a sword section.

More like that speed stick katana.

I think the handle was a bit wider or the blade a bit thinner but that's mostly it. Is there a name for a design like that or would "speed stick katana" pretty much be it?


I was gonna say maybe it was just a long handled tanto in addition to my last post, and saw you'd already responded.

First two swords which came to my mind were the chinese dadao and the southeast asian dha/dharb swords.

That speed stick katana is probably the closest shape wise and everything.

The one I'm remembering was straight with no curve or change in size really. Minus the tip of course.

This dha I found is probably the closest to what was in my mind:

Just needs to be more straight, plain black handle with no design or shapes on it.

So it's probably a dha pretty much :)
 
Hmmm.... If not a short sword it may also have just been a big dagger. No hilt on it. That dha and the speed stick are still the closest.

And bah. I love blades for practicality and looks / collecting. Finding out what it probably is makes me want to get something like that. Can't do that right after Christmas!
 
There's also an African version that was popularized in Shaka Zulu. That Jungle Honey is SWEET!
