Hi everyone I am trying to find a knife I had when I was younger and I can’t remember the brand for the life of me. Any help on figuring out what it was or suggestions on how to find it would be greatly appreciated! The the description of what I can remember is it was a fix blade about 5 to 6 inches overall length with the blade being at least 3 inches to 3 1/2. With an either light brown or light green handle it had a black finish on the blade that was kind of rough, the blade itself was fairly thick. The plastic sheath had belt loops that would snap on and off.

Welcome jojo,
I think I have your knife somewhere in the garage ... or the shop ... or the car .... dang, I think I lost it, too.
Not likely anyone can do much with your description.

Maybe this is a Juneteenth prank

Anyway, fill out your profile so we know where you live and something about you.

With those dims, it’s got a 2 - 2 1/2 inch handle ? What was it used for ? Gonna need more details for sure…

Just for fun I sent the OPs question word-for-word into ChatGPT, and the result is pretty good. I tried image search for some of the knives and they match the description pretty well (I mean, about as well as you could expect). Good luck, jojofoxracer.

To help identify your knife, let's break down its features and explore some popular brands and models that might match your description. Here are some steps you can take and potential options to consider:

Key Features to Remember:

  1. Fixed Blade: Overall length of 5-6 inches with a blade length of 3-3.5 inches.
  2. Handle: Light brown or light green.
  3. Blade Finish: Black, rough finish.
  4. Blade Thickness: Fairly thick.
  5. Sheath: Plastic with snap-on belt loops.

Possible Brands and Models:

  1. Ka-Bar:
    • Known for rugged, reliable fixed-blade knives.
    • Check models like the Ka-Bar Becker Necker, which has a black coated blade and various handle colors.
  2. Gerber:
    • Offers a range of tactical and survival fixed-blade knives.
    • The Gerber StrongArm or Gerber LMF II might fit your description, especially with their black coated blades and durable sheaths.
  3. Morakniv:
    • Known for their robust and practical fixed-blade knives.
    • Morakniv Kansbol or Morakniv Bushcraft might match, particularly with their various handle colors and black blade coatings.
  4. Cold Steel:
    • Offers a variety of tough fixed-blade knives.
    • The Cold Steel SRK (Survival Rescue Knife) could be a good fit with its thick, black blade and diverse handle colors.
  5. Ontario Knife Company:
    • Famous for military-style fixed blades.
    • Consider the Ontario RAT series, particularly the RAT-3, which comes with a black blade and various handle options.

Can you be more specific of when "when I was younger" was? Or better yet, when do you think the knife was made? Do you know where it was purchased from?

If it was a knife that came from Walmart 5 years ago, that's a whole different set of possibilities then one that was purchased from a local New England bait shop back in 1962.

Now that is cool! That's pretty much the same exact list of brands and knives that crossed my mind when I read the OP's description.
