This is an old miner's axe or railroad axe, I am not sure which. I do not know about the origins of this piece other than it has been in the family for about three generations now. It is possible it was used by my great grandfather on the L&N Railroad in the central Kentucky area, but information on this uncertain.

My purpose for this post is to get information the manufacture, time made, and estimated worth if it were to be sold.

About the only markings on it are a set of stamps on the bottom of each pick, both are the same and are a near mirror image of each other. The stamp is of a #5 with an arrow with a line across the bottom pointing inward towards the eye. Other than these two markings there is only an eye safety warning barely visible on the top.

Have to have an account to see your pics (or at least I do) which will limit the help you may get.

I can't view Flicker pictures. However, an 'eye safety warning' stamped on a metal pick suggests to me it is recent manufacture. No one could give a hoot in a rain barrel about safety warnings until about 35-40 years ago. Even my 42 year old Estwing Safe-T-Shape hammer doesn't say 'use eye protection' on it.

Woodings Verona. And as 300Six said it's from the 70's or later. Probably still decent steel even with the safety glasses warning.
