I originally posted this in the General to find information on this knife. It was moved under Bernard Levine's Knife Collecting & Identification. It was also suggested that I start a thread under here since Western was bought by Camillus. So here I am, trying to find more information on this knife.

Here is my original thread.
I won a collectible Western W49 and was looking to find more information on it. All I know is that the art work about Billy the Kid on the blade is gold, it's a limited edition #41 of 300. I have no clue what the handle is made from but with searching the web, I haven't seen a Western W49 with a handle this nice (now suggested it's buffalo horn). Any information about the blade/handle, maybe where to go for more information and value would be very helpful. I'm attaching a few photos. Thanks for any help.

Hmmm, I have no idea, but very nice. If Camco comes in, I'm sure he can shed some light on it, if it is a Camillus made 49.

Yes, that's what I heard in another thread I started and why I posted this here too. Have any advice on other places to look to shed some light on this knife?

Really great looking knife. Without a date stamp on it it is hard to date it. Does it have a sheath or a box? The blade would have WW49 if it was a Camillus Western. I would say it is a Western prior to 1977 (when they put on date stamps). The pins that hold on the scales are odd because the normal W49 only has three along the center. My w49 K (1987) has three large headed ones. The older ones used three smaller headed ones.

Billy the Kid died in 1881, so just guessing that the knife is a 100 year one. That would make it a 1981 piece. In 1981 Western Cutlery Co. was not part of Camillus. Before Camillus, Western was owned by Coleman.

Well I did find out where the knife was made, well the art work that is, Historical Armory in Fort Collins, Colorado. I'll have to swing by there to talk to them this week to find out more. Still an interesting knife for Billy the Kid fans out there.
